The Case of the Weird, Stinky Meat

This first photo is Emerson worried about the dark spot on the sidewalk. She kept asking, “What is this? What it this?” I kept saying, “It’s just a little mess, but we don’t need to worry about it.” But y’all know how she is about a mess!

So excited to love & hug Ms. Q when we saw her walking inside!

And of course excited for a banana muffin.

I took my leftover biscuit casserole to-go this morning, and warmed it up at work, and it was yummy! It’s nice to actually have a warm breakfast from time-to-time, which I don’t typically have on a work/week-day.

And more leftovers for lunch. And more Hulu watching. I’m still listening to audio books, and kind of reading a Kindle book, but I just don’t seem to want to read on my lunch break so much…

So a loooong time ago, back when I was pregnant, Megan got a onesie made for Emerson that said, “Sassy Like my Aunt.” And Megan said she kept praying Emerson would be sassy like her. Well turns out, SHE IS. And we all told Megan she prayed too hard about that. 😝

But then when Megan got pregnant with triplets, I knew just what I wanted to order for her…. So I got her onesies that said, “Sassy Like my Mama!” And they finally fit and look at this cuteness!! And I’d say she’s got an armful of babies, huh!? That’s roughly 60 pounds right there! (L to R: Ellie, Riley, Kensley.)

Meg said, towards the end of their mini photo shoot, she was like, “OK someone take them, quick!” Because here arms were getting so tired and it was hard holding them like that! And I was like, “YEAH, I bet!

Tater Tot had a good day at school – her report said she was happy!

Since today was a teacher planning day and all the big schools were out, there was way less traffic today. So we got home a little bit early, and just hung out having snacks for a few minutes, while waiting for Jeff to get home.

Then Daddy and Emmie played and got the mail, and took out the trash, all while I made dinner. Tonight’s meal was an old standby – ground turkey (sauteed with diced onions and fresh garlic) with red sauce over penne noodles. Not exactly “spaghetti,” but basically…

However, when I threw the ground turkey in, it instantly smelled weird once it started heating up. As I was cooking it, I was thinking, “hmm, this smells weird. I’m probably not gonna like it. I’m probably not gonna wanna cook turkey again for a while. I’m gonna have to put this on restrictions for a little bit….” But then Jeff walked back in the room, and was like, “WHAT IS THAT? IT SMELLS BAD!”

So then I knew it wasn’t just me and there was definitely something wrong. By that point, it was done cooking, and still smelling weird, so we decided we probably shouldn’t eat it. So we trashed the meat (turned on all the fans & vented the windows), and I microwaved the last few meatballs I had in a bag in the freezer. Then I topped it all in mozzarella cheese & microwaved it briefly to melt the cheese. It wasn’t the greatest, but it was good, and didn’t make anyone sick! Haha

I hated to waste the food, but food poisoning isn’t worth it!

After dinner, we made sure to take the meat out of the house to the trash can, and wash the skillet to try to get the smell out as quickly as possible. Emmie loved watching the rain for a little while, and then we got ready for bed. She got on her jammies, and grabbed a bag of Cheeze-its, plus her cup of milk, and we all snuggled up to watch a few songs and videos.

She was being so extremely super silly at bedtime, and was just being such a goofball. Like the way she climbed up on Daddy to read this book. (We said “Mae Mae” again, by the way.)

When we finished reading, we told her Daddy would take her snack & drink to the kitchen to save for tomorrow, but she decided she wanted to help. She kept repeating “Go with Dad! Go with Dad! Go with Dad!” We don’t even know where she learned “Dad” instead of “Daddy,” but that, coupled with her little pitiful face, and “Open the door, Dad,” we were literally busting a gut laughing at her. We were trying to keep it cool, but eventually we just burst and couldn’t control ourselves. We decided to just let her go with Dad to take the stuff to the kitchen, hoping she would be happy.

We did eventually calm her down, but it took a couple rounds of lullabies and extra back scratches and “Jesus Loves Me’s”, and now I think she’s sound asleep. Since it took longer to get her to bed, Jeff started washing the dishes while I was back there, and when I finish this post, I’m going to go wash a few more, before settling down for the night.

We’ve got candles lit, and all the fans still on, and hopefully the weird meat smell will be out of the house sooner, rather than later.
