Backpack

My Emmie-cille was excited to be able to wear her own backpack to school again today! That was one of the “sternal precautions” she wasn’t allowed to do post-surgery, and even though it doesn’t seem like a big deal, she actaully loves backpacks! It’s also a huge blessing that she’s continuing to heal so great after her open-heart surgery!

And as usual, she was super excited to see “her babies” when they got to school today.

And then she had a good day at school! Her report said, “Today we made a scratch and sniff picture and learned about our five senses.” And she got to go out on the playground twice! She said she played with her twin besties William & Andrew, and went across the bridge together. She told me, “You need to come by and see it sometime!”

After school and work, we came home and had a tiny photoshoot. A writer associated with Wolfson Children’s Hospital is writing a story about Emerson and her journey, and asked for a few photos. Of course I already have about eleventy billion, but I wanted a couple brand new ones. So I picked out this beautiful hand-me-down dress and switched the phone camera to portrait mode, and got so many amazing photos! I’ll share all of them after the article comes out in a few weeks, but here’s just one of the cheesier ones for now 🙂

She loved the dress and didn’t want to take it off for dinner, so I let her eat in her fancy dress, that came all the way down to her “footsies.” I actually made turkey spaghetti sauce, with the bowtie noodles, but she wanted butter noodles. And it turned out, the turkey was a little off and weird (this is the second time this has happened to me; strangely enough, the first time was just over a year ago), so I ate butter noodles too, with my garlic bread and Caesar side salad. (Jeff was helping out a friend, but he had a PB&J later.)

She wanted to take this ball outside and play for a while, so we switched back to her more casual dress and went outside for about 30 minutes. The weather was lovely and she was so sweet and happy and found a tiny, empty snail shell and gave it to me as a surprise.

We watched a little bit of Frozen II all snuggled up on the couch together, and then got her dressed in her jammies and ready for bed. She always needs a bedtime snack though, so she grabbed a “ganolda bar” and her super cold ice water. She picked out tonight’s two books, we read them all together, and then she snuggled up for lullabies.

Tonight was an easy, chill night, despite the issue with the ground turkey… Jeff threw out all the bad sauce for me (I couldn’t stand the smell, or the waste), and then took out the trash. I’m gonna rinse out the pan and the few bowls we used, but I’ll wait to do the full-on washing tomorrow. I’m gonna grab a snack, and settle in on the couch with my hubby!
