Low-Key

Tater Tot did great at morning drop-off this morning. On the car ride to school, she said, “My babies make me happy when I get to hug them at school. And they are happy when they see me!”

She told me one of her friends at school wears a mask every day, and she wanted to be like her. So she grabbed this one that Miss Jessica gave her. I told her she could wear it, but she didn’t have to all day, and I have all ideas that it didn’t last more than 20 minutes, once the novelty had worn off.

I love Ellie up on her little tippy-toes, peeking inside Emmie’s classroom, looking for her. So precious!

My lunch today was delicious… leftover turkey burger with sautéed, caramelized onions, with peaches and Caesar salad on the side, and a new book – a food/chef memoir.

I also finished an audio book today. I actually read this about two years ago, and absolute loved it. Seriously, 5 out of 5 stars. So I wanted to do a “re-read” since I loved it so much, but chose to listen to the audio version, and enjoyed it just as much! Highly recommend this one. It’s historical fiction, set in the wild frontier of Alaska in the 1970’s, and is a powerful story about family, friends, and finding your way in life. There’s also an epic love story woven through, and it’s really an amazing story. I sobbed the first time I read it, and still cried again today finishing it up for the second time.

I was missing a few key things in this week’s meal plan, from my Walmart grocery order from this past weekend (sausage for the frittata, and sauce for the pizza), so I wasn’t sure what to make for dinner tonight… Jeff volunteered to go grab burgers (instead of just going to Publix for the needed ingredients) which I was actually fine with, because I used all my brain power trying to figure out what to do, and no longer felt like cooking. Haha 😉

At dinner, she was telling us how she wanted to have a sleepover with her twin besties from school, and that they would come have a sleepover with us too, and William was gonna bring allllll of his things over. I said, “But Emmie, you couldn’t even do a sleepover at Nana’s house, how would you do a sleepover at William & Andrew’s house?” And she was just like, “Well I have my new air mattress and I can take my sleeping bag.” So apparently she’s got it all planned out. Are we ready for this, Alli?! 😉 I think not…

Tater had a bath after dinner, and got all wrapped up in her new mermaid-hood towel, complete with a tiny little tail! She was very proud of herself too. (Also, you can get a little peep of her open-heart surgery scar, that still healing up really nicely. The few scabs that she had are almost completely gone now!)

She was being such a silly little goofball, climbing all over me, like a tiny monkey, and she said, “I wanna be a monkey when I grow up!” So I told her that was fine, and Daddy told her it was a good thing she liked bananas! She also told us that she was playing with her friends on the playground today, and that Nate was being a monster and they all had to run from him.

She was super sweet for bedtime and lullabies again tonight. She was holding onto my arm while I knelt next to her bed, as I sand “Jesus Loves Me” to her. She was singing with me, and I was smiling so big at her, and she said, “Mommy, you’re so happy. I like it when you smile because it makes me happy!” Ughhh, you guys! How in the world did I get so lucky with this girl!? She could not be any sweeter!!

Today was just a really low-key day all around – work, dinner, home, bedtime – and that’s a blessing. These run-of-the-mill, normal days are rare, but always appreciated!
