Easter At Home

He is Risen, He is risen, indeed! Happy Easter! Today was one of the strangest Easter Sunday’s of my life so far, including when I was away from my family during the college years, and also two years ago when I stayed home sick with a stomach bug on Easter Sunday morning. (Here’s Easter 2019, if you’d like to check that out.)

We had cinnamon rolls for breakfast…

And then Emerson finally got to see what was hiding under the blanket on the coffee table. (Luckily, Nana had scored a few things at Publix yesterday for us to put in her Easter basket, because that was a total Mom-fail on my part, and I literally didn’t even think about it…

Emerson watched “the music man” do preschool music time with her church buddies and Sunday school teachers via Zoom no my phone. Then Jeff taught our Sunday school class via Zoom, while Emerson colored and read books on the floor next to me in the dining room.

We watched our church service online via live-stream, the save as we have for the past few weeks. But today, we all took communion together, from our own homes, while Pastor Ronny led us. I made this unleavened bread last night, from a recipe our church shared, and bought cran-grape juice at the grocery store yesterday. When it came time to actually observe the Lord’s Supper at home, I got a little emotional. There was just something about being with just my little family, sitting our couch at home, taking the elements together, that really touched me. I teared up a little as we prayed and sang and drank the juice and ate the bread. It was peaceful, and beautiful, and strange, and I very much enjoyed it. I’m glad our church encouraged us all to do this “together.”

We have been watching church wearing yoga pants or pj’s or t-shirts, but today we put on some “nicer” casual clothes, and took a few family photos out on the front porch after church. (We used a selfie stick, duct-taped to a chair on the front porch, on a self-timer, to get the photo by the door.) I even put on make-up for the first time in literally three weeks!

The three of us had lunch together before Emerson’s nap, and I realized it’s probably the only time we’d ever have an Easter lunch with just us three. Which was nice, but also super weird. I’m going to just cut the blog short here today, as the rest of the day we focused on what Easter really means, and enjoyed special family time.

Happy Easter, again! We serve a risen Savior!
