My 32nd Birthday

Today is my 32nd birthday! And clearly I’m not one of those women who is secretive & coy about their age… Or at least, not at this point in life! So I got to start my day opening presents with my little family.

My hubby got me my own copy of “Bibliophile” after mentioning my library copy was so pretty & great, I wanted one to keep forever. What a good hubby! He also got me a set of pj’s, and in that box are these cool crystal/prism things you hang in the window, that cast rainbows when the sun shines through them!

And then the sky was absolutely gorgeous this morning!!

And my sweet baby girl was just as sweet as ever. She chose this specific spot to take our morning photos, which I that was cute. And please notice – her shoes are on the wrong feet, since she likes to take them off & put them back on herself in the car as we drive.

My sweet hubby also brought me a delicious bacon, egg & cheese everything bagel for a special birthday breakfast treat.

And then my hubby also came & picked me up from work to take me on a birthday lunch date! We went to Sahara, and I got a super yummy gyro wrap, and he had the steak schwarma, which was so different & really, really good. We also mentioned it was my birthday while we were ordering, and the girl brought me a free birthday baklava!

Work was of course just as crazy and busy as usual and didn’t even relent for my birthday 😉 But I had pre-church family dinner to look forward to, so that helped. Grammy picked up the Tater Tot, and as usual, we all met up for dinner before church, this time at Hopkins. I got to choose since it was my birthday, and Hopkins is my favorite local sandwich shop, especially with their iced sweet mint tea! Emerson specifically asked to sit next to Aunt Suzanne tonight, and they shared chips together.

I was also given two birthday cards from my aunt and Grandmommie. So sweet 🙂

Right towards the end of dinner, Emerson spilled her fruit punch all down the front of her shirt & pants, and she was extremely upset about it. But unfortunately, I didn’t have an extra outfit with us today. So I made a quick trip to the consignment store that was super close by, and bought her a new outfit for a whopping $3.76, and we changed her in the back of Grammy’s Jeep.

We had a great night at choir, practicing a few of our old stand-by songs, and we also started learning this new-to-us song from Chris Tomlin.

On the ride home, Emerson was so tired and kept whining about everything under the sun. One – she wanted to wear the outfit that made her look like a bear cub, but I told her it was too late but that we could do it another day, so she was mad. Two – she wanted the purple shirt from the school bag to change into after she spilled her fruit punch (hours after the fact). Three – she wanted Daddy to be at home when we got there, and I kept telling her he would be (he was right behind us), but she didn’t believe me I guess.

In between all the whining though, I grabbed my favorite Burt’s Bee’s chapstick to put on, and she smelled it and guessed what I was doing. She told me she wanted some of her own, so I said we could get some at home. Then she said she wanted something, but I couldn’t understand her. She repeated herself, and it sounded like she was saying “goulash.” So I asked her, “You want goulash, Emerson? What are you talking about?” She was like YEAH GOULASH! Eventually I figured out she was trying to say “lip gloss.” I was laughing so hard!

At home, she was happy to see Daddy, and was excited to find a pair of jammies she wanted to wear, and I found the specific chapstick she wanted to use. So she layered it on thick, thick, thick, and she was good to go.

She wanted some water, so I was telling her she could only have a liiiiiittle tiny bit, so that she didn’t drink too much and leak out of her diaper overnight. And she started mimicking me and doing it herself, which was adorable.

The whole night, she kept talking about her lip gloss/goulash, and then after books & prayers, when we were giving hugs & kisses, she hollered out to Daddy, “Don’t kiss me in my goulash!” Oh my word we were dying laughing! We kept repeating her, and laughing so much, and she thought it as funny and kept saying it too. So much silliness and laughing! It was good fun and it was a good way to re-fill my Mommy tank, after the frustration from the whining on the way home.

It’s been so fun documenting our lives for the last few years, and I’m glad I get to remember fun stuff Emerson says, and birthdays from years past too. (Click here for my 30th, and click here for my 31st.) Today was a good day, and a good birthday, and I’m so thankful for all the sweet well-wishes from family & friends, near & far!
