Take Your Child to Work Day 2026

After six days of a very nasty tummy bug, my Emmie girl was finally feeling better today! So all of us were up and moving this morning for the first time in a week! Addison just had a regular day at school, but Emerson had a special day of work at the office today! So of course she made sure to dress like a little office worker, cardigan, hair & badge included.

And both of their little hairs and claw clips were so cute. Emerson was like, “Do more office ladies wear their hair down or in a bun?” I said both. She insisted she wanted to know which was more. I said, “Well, I haven’t conducted a research study, so I don’t know, but I do know a claw clip is popular in the office!” So that’s what we went with.

We started out with a little opening event in the main “classroom” with our executive leadership and our Secretary.

Then we did little game of building bingo, going from floor to floor, visiting all the different Bureau’s and collecting snacks and treats and learning about what we all do.

And of course the favorite area to visit is always the Security Operations area, with their brand new K9 officer puppies!

And I love this beautiful little portrait shot I took of her in the media studio with all the nice fancy lighting and such.

Up in my Bureau, my friend Mary has this giant giraffe named Mabel, and she got it out of the back corner to show Emmie. And Emmie was like, “I can probably ride that thing!” And then Mary even gave her a teeny little pocket-sized version too, which was so sweet! And Emmie also named the tiny one Mabel as well.

Daddy picked us up for a lunch date, and Emerson wanted sushi, just like she requested last year. Today we went to Nagoya, and they had a great sushi lunch deal that I loved – three rolls with soup & salad, for only $16! Emerson also wanted us to order the gyoza too, and we didn’t take much convincing with that one.

She was so excited and did this crazy face that was so silly and cute. (And you can see her new giraffe Mabel sticking out of her cardigan pocket, where he hung out during our lunch outing.)

Part of the building bingo this morning was taking this project to-go, for a design contest to create the Secretary’s new “excellence coin.” So Emmie came up with her own design idea and worked on it very diligently for about an hour or so.

And then shortly after we turned in the design for the contest, I got a call asking us to come down to the Secretary’s Suite, because she had won the contest! I know there were a couple hundred submissions, and I was so proud of her for winning! I could barely believe it! They all said they loved her little eagle that she drew, and that’s what made them all vote for her design. And her cute little eagle is my favorite too! And as her prize, they gave her one of the current coins.

I made a marinara meatball bake tonight, and added ricotta cheese for the first time, which was definitely a good move. Then I put away the puzzle I finished last night, and the girls picked out my next one. I spent about 30 minutes organizing and color-coding all the new pieces, while the girls played together before bedtime.

Emerson and I were both exhausted after our very busy day at the office today, so she was in bed and asleep very easily tonight, and once I finish this post, and the last 10 minutes of last night’s Survivor episode, I’m gonna be out in no time myself!
