Sunny Mornings & Sleepy Days

Today was day 5 of our 5-day long weekend, and it was a strange day, actually! It started off with me driving my old little Dodge car, that Jeff now drives (since he let me have our new VW when we first got it), and taking the girls to drop-off at camp. They did great, and things were super smooth there.

Then I had to go out to the Volkswagen dealership to pick Jeff up, because he had taken the car there for the routine oil change and service, and to have the brakes checked out, because they were making a very loud grinding noise. Well, it turns out, the warranty on the breaks was only through 24K miles, and we’re at 26K, so we’re just over the limit and have to pay for the repairs ourselves. Super annoying of course! And a large unexpected expense, in the middle of an expensive summer, since summer camp is not cheap…

So we left the car to be taken care of, and next up we went out to breakfast at a new spot near our house, called Sunny Mornings Cafe. It’s where the old Sweet Pea Cafe used to be on Tharpe, and as soon as they started putting up signs about the new place coming soon, I was excited to try it out. It’s authentic Mexican breakfast, and lunch, and I really wanted to try out some Mexican breakfast! We finally made it there today, and it was just as delicious as expected.

This is Jeff’s plate – he ordered the Salvadorian breakfast, with sausage, chicken, fried eggs, plaintains, beans, avocado, sour cream & tortillas (in the foil). His meal was huge and so filling, he didn’t even finish it all.

And this is mine – Huevos con Chorizo, which is eggs with chorizo, with rice & beans and tortillas.

And of course I made a few breakfast tacos, and Jeff gave me his avocado, and it was sooo good! The eggs & chorizo were so flavorful and salty and yummy, and I loved making tiny tacos with a few shakes of Cholula too.

It’s a small tiny little cafe, but very simple and bright and certainly sunny. There are also a few more things on the menu I’d like to try (I’ve literally wanted to try chilaquiles for years now), so I hope we can head back soon!

Then we went back home with then intentions to work on chores like laundry and dishes… but after about 10 minutes, I was sound asleep on the couch, where I napped for about two hours. I have actually felt like I’ve been on the verge of a cold for about a week now, and I think when I woke up from my afternoon nap yesterday, it had gotten worse. And then today, I feel like it’s finally, fully here. So that’s why I fell asleep so quickly after breakfast. But then when I woke up around noon, I had a bathroom and water break, moved to my bed, and Jeff rubbed my back and I fell back asleep again for another 1.5 hours! By then it was like 2pm, and I woke up hungry and ready for a small snack-lunch. Then we attempted to watch a movie on Netflix, and I fell asleep for a third time!!

Clearly, with my summer cold, my body really needed lots of extra rest today. And with all that, by the time we picked up the girls (and had a T-Mobile guy come run new internet wires into the house since apparently some rodent had chewed ours out where the line enters the house last night), I was still just not feeling up to cooking dinner, so Jeff picked up Chick-fil-A (soup for me, which was so good), and we just had a very easy night at home. I did eventually wash some dishes, and Jeff did fold a few loads of laundry and washed a few others, so we did at least accomplish a little bit…

I’m currently re-doing my nails and watching the “Skywalkers” documentary on Netflix, after their crazy stunt on the Empire State Building went crazy viral last week. I hadn’t heard of them before, and didn’t know about their doc before that, but it’s wild!! And so interesting. Hopefully I’ll still be able to sleep tonight, after all my naps today…
