90’s Backyard Summer

My beautiful little girlies in matching red, white, and blue dresses at church today, for one more patriotic outfit for this ultra-long July 4th weekend.

We went back to Prime Time Addaa for Indian food for lunch after church today. When we walked in, the guy was like, “Hey, I remember you!” And I was like, “Wow yeah, we’re back and we brought friends today!” We brought our friends Katelyn & Craig, and their son Emerson! Their Emerson ate cheese pizza, but our girls had the butter chicken with us. We also ordered samosas and papad, and the server was super nice and brought out an extra order of both (on the house!) for our friends to try. He also brought out three little cups of ice cream with julab gamon for each of the kiddos as well.

Emerson ate two servings of the rice and butter chicken, and a big ole piece of butter naan. You can see her cleared off plate, and her mouth full still chewing away!

After lunch, we went home and planned to do some quiet, feet-off-the-floor time together. So we turned on “Luca” on Disney+ (one of our favorites, especially for summertime), but of course I fell asleep on the couch for way longer than I planned, and Jeff took a nap in the bedroom, and then we finally woke back up around 4:30pm-ish. So by that time, we just got ready and headed straight out to Havana to Jeffs’ parents’ house. Nana set up a backyard sprinkler for the girls, and they stayed out there played for basically two hours, just laughing and screeching and giggling and having so much fun. That, coupled with fresh, cold watermelon, really brought on the perfect 90’s backyard summer vibes, and it was so nostalgic for me. Emerson even said, “This feels like a perfect summer night!”

Nana had made chicken, shrimp & steak stir-fry on their blackstone a couple of nights ago. So tonight, she just made fresh rice, and heated everything up, and it was delicious, especially topped with some of the yum-yum sauce.

In addition to the regular red watermelon, we also tried out this crazy-looking yellow watermelon! She got it from one of those guys selling produce on the side of the road. Apparently they’re a little bit more of a “specialty,” and the yellow was just ever so slightly sweeter than the red.

Would you just look at this perfect little ringlet of Emmie’s!?

Even once they were dressed and we were trying to head out, we ended up back in the watermelon containers, filling our bellies again with both yellow and red. Then we all did a blind taste test, to see if we could taste the difference. I guessed both of mine correctly, but watermelon IS my favorite fruit!

Emmie fell asleep almost instantly tonight, but Addie has had a bit of a rough time. It seems like her and I both are starting to come down with a bit of a summer cold, so she’s got a little cough that’s been keeping her up. We just gave her some meds though, and now she gets some extra snuggles, and hopefully we can get her back to sleep soon.
