Pickle Dip

(Post for Saturday, 8/8/26.)

We spent basically the entire morning on Saturday, trying on new clothes, cleaning the house, doing chores, washing dishes, and trying to get more organized. This new outfit Addison picked out with Nana yesterday was killing me it was so cute! It was from Marshalls, and came with this cowgirl hat attached, and sheesh this girl is adorable.

I have been searching for an old-school wooden heart-shelf like this for about seven or eight months, and I finally bought one off Facebook Marketplace recently. It didn’t come with any hanging hardware on the back, so Jeff had to figure out the best way to do so, and worked on getting it hung up for me, in the exact spot I saved for it when we created this little vintage gallery wall last November.

Eventually, I warmed up some leftovers for the girls’ for lunch, and then I made myself this new pickle dip I saw on TikTok. There are multiple versions of the recipe, but I chose the most simple one, which is just sour cream, cream cheese, ranch seasoning, fresh chopped dill, S&P, garlic powder, and an entire container of chopped up pickles with some of their juices too. This was also my first time buying/tasting Grillo’s pickles, and WOW these are incredible. I tasted one, and was immediately like, “Well dang, I don’t think I’ll be able to go back to the cheap store brand anymore – these are incredible!” And honestly, they really are SO much better than the Great Value I always get.

I ate my dip with baby carrots (and just a few tortilla Scoops), trying to keep it low-carb, and it was sooo delicious. And then since I had some more of the pickle juice leftover, I put some of the carrots into leftover brine, and then I’ll have some delicious pickled carrots.

And before I knew it, I had a little tiny buddy climbing up on the counter wanting a taste-test of her own, after I had put the dip into a Tupperware bowl to save. And she actually loved it, even though she doesn’t really like pickles.

We did some more chores after lunch, and Jeff went out running errands, and gassing up his car, and going to Home Depot. Then late in the afternoon, the girls and I went to a little swimming-play-date with Emmie’s friend from East Hill, Scarlet. When we had fro-yo with them a few weeks ago, we realized her grandparents actually live on our street! And it was nice to have some fun with friends, and just hang out for a chill afternoon in the pool.

We made it back home after swimming right before a storm started. But I got the girls into the bathtub, and I had a snack, and then when they were out I hopped in the shower too. Jeff brought dinner home for us, and we ate at the dining room table for the first time in forever, since I finally got it cleaned off today. It had just become a dump zone for far too long, and it felt good to heave it back to normal!

We snuggled up on the couch after dinner to watch a movie together, and I got so warm and cozy, that I fell asleep around 8pm, with Emerson cuddled up, tucked in right next to me. She must have fallen asleep eventually too, because when I woke up at 10pm, she was still right next to me, asleep herself. Jeff had already gotten Addison to sleep, so Emmie and I both just stumbled off to bed at that point too. And so that’s why I didn’t blog last night, because I was too exhausted, and went to sleep super early!
