Pediatrician and Probiotics

Jeff took sweet little Addison to school this morning, looking adorable in a new outfit from Walmart and her favorite little cardigan.

I bought this cutie little wicker shelf through Facebook, from my favorite thrift-reseller @thethriftygypsy and Jeff met her to pick it up for me today. It’s a little wobbly and could use some TLC, but Jeff thinks he can fix it up a bit. I love this old wicker stuff, especially in our house built in the ’60’s. No idea where I’m putting this, but I don’t think it’s strong enough to hold a ton of books. So we’ll just have to see what to do with it. But, it was only $35, and I just couldn’t pass it up!

After Emerson first woke up this morning, I was helping get Addison ready for school, so Emmie laid back down. She didn’t think she was gonna sleep, just thought she was gonna “rest” until Jeff and Addie left, but of course she went back to sleep for another hour and a half. She was still feeling pretty rough, and it took her a while to wake up fully. I got her to drink some fluids though, and then Grammy showed up for a surprise check-up. She stayed and visited with us for her lunch hour, and brought smoothies from McDonald’s. Emmie didn’t drink much of it, but she liked the little bit she had. (Ironically, I was always craving the mango pineapple smoothie from McD’s when I was pregnant with Emmie!)

Then Emmie was ready to try eating some toast, so I made her some buttered toast with regular white bread. I’ve been trying so hard not to eat in front of her while she’s been sick this weekend, but since she was eating toast, I made some for myself as well, but I jazzed mine up. I used my keto bread, with kewpie mayo, tomato, balsamic glaze & parm. Then I made a delicious at home iced latte with this new creamer I found, and wow this is my new favorite creamer for sure.

But since she was still struggling so bad, I called the pediatrician’s office for an appointment this afternoon. We were able to see a doctor there and talk through everything still going on. Basically, this is still just the back side of a very bad GI bug, and we’re gonna keep watching her closely, and bring her back if she gets worse. She did say to start on some probiotics and Activia, and a bit more normal food. So we went to Publix really quickly (she rode in the buggy the whole time), and found the Activia, plus some little BOGO probiotics yogurt drinks, and some fake Ritz crackers.

She drank one of the yogurt drinks as soon as we got back in the car, and then I got her settled up in a little warm blanket throne in the recliner, with the heating pad on her tummy. She promptly fell asleep after about two seconds, and slept for about two hours. Jeff and Addie picked out this little duck on their trip to Walgreens for supplies yesterday (from the Easter clearance), and she’s been toting him everywhere for two days now, very attached.

Jeff picked up Addie from school, and then they took Pennie on a little walk when they got home. We had a very simple meal for dinner (it was all pre-cooked food from the deli, since tonight was supposed to be a gymnastics night and we always do very quick and easy meals on Mondays), but Emerson was actually able to eat some real food for the first time, and she loved it. She ate very slowly, but the warm shredded pork, mashed potatoes and lima beans felt good in her belly. She started out with teeny tiny portions on the first plate I made her, and then had tiny second helpings of everything and did really well with it.

Addison had a little bath before dinner, so she was all ready for bed once we finished eating. I had already tidied up the living room and kitchen this morning, and also washed a bunch of dishes. But Addie helped me clean off the coffee table and get all of those things put away, so that I could actually start a puzzle. I haven’t done one in ages, and my back is feeling better now, and I have so many new ones from that puzzle swap back in the beginning of March. Addie helped me lay out all the pieces and separate the edges and then color-code the edges too. She was so sweet and cute, and every time she found an edge piece, she would say in the cutest voice, “Mama, a straight one, a straight one!”

Emerson did have another round of really bad stomach cramps right at bedtime, which again made her cry, which led to tears from me too. I just feel so helpless and there’s nothing I can do to help her feel better. I wish I could take it all away from her if I could! I told her I’d run a 5K if it would help her feel better, and she said she would too! Keeping her home again tomorrow, but her teacher sent us a couple of easy activities to do to keep her from getting behind, and to help her from being super bored at home for so long.

Please pray for these extreme stomach pains and cramps to subside and for her to continue being able to eat. She’s lost four pounds in four days, and when you’re as tiny as she is, you really can’t afford to lose so much. She’s still just weak and lethargic, and mostly afraid to eat. Praying that she really is on the downhill side of this whole thing, but I said that yesterday too, so hopefully it really is true today.
