NOLA Day 3 – Beignets & Beavers

On our last morning in the Big Easy, we had to get one more giant meal in the French Quarter. And of course that meal had to involve beignets again! This was at Cafe Beignet down near Jackson Square, and it was so cute and perfect and everything was so incredibly delicious.

Now clearly, we got carried away and ordered too much food. I ended up only eating half of my omelette and potatoes, and taking my almond croissant for the road. But Jeff did finish his croissant sandwich, and we each ate a chocolate drizzled beignet, which was so delicious, as I’m sure you can imagine.

After our giant breakfast, we bagged up the leftovers and then since our one-day transit pass had expired by the time we finished eating, we just walked the 15-ish blocks back to our hotel.

We got packed up pretty quickly and checked out, and then hit the road back home to Florida. We stopped at the Alabama welcome center for a potty break and some walking around time, and they had this cool painted oyster shell art piece.

We also stopped at a Bucee’s on our way home. This was my first time going to one, and if you’ve been to one before, you know…. but if you haven’t been, it’s like a gas station on steroids, with tons on their own branded snacks, candies and gear, plus fresh brisket and a bakery. It’s crazy and huge and white and experience. We had looked for a few souvenirs for the girls on Bourbon/Canal Street in Nola, but everything seemed so cheap but also expensive, so we never found anything we liked. Luckily, Bucee’s came through for us, and we got them each a stuffed beaver, and some snacks!

We made decent time on our trip back home, except for when we got stuck sitting still on the interstate for about an hour in traffic… By the time we were finally moving again, we realized the holdup had been a truck that caught fire in the road, and firetrucks were working to get it taken care of. It was wild, but we were very thankful for our own safety.

We were so very excited to see our little girls when we got back home, and they were so excited to see us too of course! We gave them their beavers, and some of the giant bag of popcorn we bought on Tuesday, and then it was their bedtime.

And here’s the last TikTok of our trip. I took way more videos this day than photos, so that’s why there aren’t many photos in this blog post. Loved reminiscing our whirlwind trip though these blog posts!
