NOLA Day 1 – Muffaletta & Concert

After dropping the girls off at school on Tuesday morning, we immediately got on the road towards New Orleans! We found this crazy gas station to stop for gas and potty and snacks, which was a wild trip.

This coffee was not as good as expected, would not recommend. But the giant popcorn was delicious, and wayyyy more than enough 🤣

We made a few more stops, and made it to Nola in pretty decent time! Our hotel was fine, but not great, and the room was definitely smaller than I expected. But it was good enough, and we didn’t really mind.

We did have a nice view from our room!

After dropping off our stuff in the room, we immediately walked over to the French Quarter for our first meal, and some exploring.

Then we went back up to our room to get freshened up and changed for the concert. We’ve been listening to Johnnyswim for literally our entire relationship together, and it was so much fun to see them perform live in concert as our 10th anniversary! They were incredible, and sounded so perfect live, and we had such a great time singing along. We wished they would have sang for another hour or two!

This one guy, Daniel Nunnelly, was their opener, and he actually had a great voice, and good songs.

As a band, Johnnyswim is actually a husband & wife power couple Abner and Amanda, with the most amazing voices. Jeff’s brother was actually roommates with Anner in college, and Amanda is Donna Summers’ daughter (and has modeled for Louis Vuitton)! Their song “Home” is the theme song for Fixer Upper (Chip & Joanna Gaines’ show), and they have two shows of their own on the Magnolia TV network. They truly are amazing. They also have 3 kids, and the kids are on tour with them, and came out for one of the songs.

We had balcony seats in the small theater, which were really good, but at the end we went down to check out the standing-room-only situation, and were glad we had seats, even though it was cool.

That one meal we had earlier in the day was around 4pm, so we were super hungry by the end of the concert, so we went across the street for some chicken fingers and fries, which we brought back to the hotel and ate in bed while watching reruns of Friends. (That whole situation felt so lazy and wonderful and we loved it.) By the time we walked back to our hotel that night (even after driving in the car for 6 hours), we still got in 8,000 steps with all our walking!

Now, here’s a cute TikTok video I made for day 1 of our trip! Oh, and the song in the video is a cute love song by Johnnyswim, of course!
