Level Up

The first Friday of our new school year, and the girls were super cute sporting their new theme shirts for the year, and cute new hair bows, with their requested matching hair-do’s.

Unfortunately they don’t have toddler size t-shirts for the elementary school students, so Addie’s shirt is humongous on her, but that just means it’ll last her a long time through her elementary career!

And I did the girls’ drop-off today, and we had a great morning car ride and lots of silly conversations, and lots of singing “washed in the water, washed in the blood,” which is Addie’s current favorite song, she’s obsessed with it.

And they both gave me hugs and kisses and happily hopped out of the car and walked off together holding hands again, oh so sweetly!

And Jeff took Pennie to her vet check-up appointment, with lots of side-eye when they first got in the car.

Tonight after work and school, we celebrated my dad’s birthday with a big family dinner out at my parents’ house. He turned 60 earlier this week, so we had to make a big deal out of it! Grammy did a great job decorating, with a little help from Emerson this afternoon too. Grammy actually picked up my girls from school this afternoon basically right when they got out, and Meg got her girls out there earlier, so they were all swimming by the time I got out there.

Oh but first, Grammy and Papa revealed the surprise they’ve been working on for a few weeks in the spare room – a three-tiered bunk bed for all the kiddos to share! They were SO excited, and there was a lot of squealing, and we could barely get them back out of that room the rest of the night.

Papa requested old school “flying saucers” for dinner like he loved as a kid, and surprisingly, all of our kids loved them too! Some of the had seconds, some of them had extra meat or potatoes, but they ate so well!

And a delicious cookie cake and ice cream for dessert to round it all out.

Plus some presents, with help from the baby boy.

There were three deer in the front yard and the came up very close to the girls to say hello.

Then when it was time to leave, I could see the sky through trees way back down the driveway, and once I started pulling out I realized it was way better than I could first see. So I hopped out to snap a photo, and ended up standing in an ant bed, and then kicked my shoe off underneath the car, and had to fling/scratch off like 30 ants off my one foot, then dig out my shoe, all before I could get back in the car. Way too much hoopla… But the sky was truly beautiful!

Addison fell asleep in the car on the way home with Jeff, and Emerson talked my ear off the whole way, and then we listened to “Invisible String” about three times while she tried to learn more of the lyrics. So Jeff just carried Addie straight to bed at home, and I let Emmie fall asleep on the couch listening to a sleepy lo-fi YouTube channel while I’ve been blogging. So now I gotta go move her to her bed, then work on my puzzle and watch some tv…
