Heirloom Tomatoes & Backyard Honey

Luckily, we all woke up on time today, and we had our usual amount of time to get ourselves ready for the day. And just look how adorable these two munchkins are!

After work and school, I picked up the girls and we headed up through the North Monroe traffic to Havana, to see Nana & PopPop. They had been gone out of town/out of state for the past 10 days, and wanted to have dinner tonight! They had also brought home some fresh corn on the cob, heirloom tomatoes, and super local backyard honey all from Nana’s siblings’ houses up in West Virginia. (Just took my own little trip down memory lane, from our 2024 trip to West Virginia, check out the post here for the farm with the honey, and here for the house with the tomatoes and corn. And of course, while I was singing along to The Jonas Brothers, Emerson was reading, and Addison fell asleep.

And look at these beautiful tomatoes. I sat right down at the counter when we got there, and just had slices of these delicious gorgeous tomatoes as my appetizer. They’re all heirloom tomatoes from Jeff’s Uncle Alfred’s front yard, and the one on the right of the plate is a striped one, and one of the best I’ve ever had.

The Mason jar on the left is what Nita’s brother Randy harvested from his bees right there in his backyard, just last week! And she shared about half of it with me by putting some into an old peach jar for me to take home. We had some on our chicken tenders and our biscuits with dinner tonight, and it was soooo good!

These people always, always love corn on the cob (especially Jeff and Addie), but it’s even better when it came straight from your own family’s mountain-top garden in West Virginia!

The girls hopped in for a quick bath at Nana’s before it was time to head out, so they were clean and in their jammies and ready for bed by the time we got home. Addie actually fell asleep on the ride home with Jeff, while Emmie and I were singing along to Folklore and watching the lightning all the way home. Jeff carried Addie straight to bed when he got home, and after I let Emerson have a few minutes to finish reading her book, she fell asleep very quickly and easily.

Now, I”m going to work on my current puzzle, and we’re going to start the new Hulu documentary about the Dan Markel murder! Like most people in Tally, we’ve followed the story and case for years, and I have just been waiting for the day when a real documentary would be made about it…
