For the second year in a row, Jeff requested Donut Kingdom for Father’s Day breakfast, and who could blame him?! I am so thankful for the amazing Daddy he is to Emerson, how he takes care of her, and how much he loves her. Happy Father’s Day, hubs!
After a quick donut breakfast together, Jeff hit the road to go pick up their boys for their summer visit. (He borrowed his mom’s car, because it’s much bigger for a long road trip.) Emmie was so cute jumping and waving and hollering, “Goodbye! I love you!”
Her and I lazed about for a bit, then we started trying to clean up around the house. While I was working, I had my back turned to her, and she got red marker on the couch cover… So I busted out my newest grown-up purchase, that I’ve had for about a week, but hadn’t opened yet. I’d been saving up my credit card points and got the Bissell SpotClean pro for “free” from Amazon.
I told her to sit in “thinking time” by herself (which is what they call it at school) so she grabbed her headphones (since she doesn’t like the loud noise), and sat over in the corner watching. I know the marker was an accident, so I wasn’t very harsh with her, but it was still kinda frustrating.
We finished up some more of our cleaning chores, and then she picked out a few books to read. Since the couch cushion was wet from the cleaning, I told her we could sit on the carpet in front of the couch, but she chose to sit on the dining room rug, and we read books together.
This was her roaring like a dinosaur.
She asked me to read “Love You Forever,” but she calls it the bathtub book due to the picture on the cover. But on literally the first page, I started crying while reading it to her out loud. But she sat very sweetly listening to me, with that adorable little face, and I tried to pull it together and not ball my eyes out at the sweet, sad story. (Y’all know what I’m talking about on this one, right?!)
She asked if I wanted to have a tea party, and of course I did!
She specifically asked for tacos since she was wearing her “Taco ’bout CUTE” onesie, and I thought that sounded like a great idea! I had planned to go to our favorite local place, TacoMora, but she got a little upset and basically demanded to go to Taco Bell, so that’s what we did. But she ate like a champ! She had a cheesy roll-up, a few bites of my crunch-wrap, and an entire taco!
She went down for her nap after lunch, and I did a few more chores (dishes) and worked on this blog post. As soon as she woke up from her nap, we ran over to Walmart for our grocery pick-up order. After we got the cold food put away, we loaded up to head to Grammy & Papa’s house for Father’s Day pool time & family dinner!
Kensley Hope wanted to wear Emerson’s backpack, and she liked it a lot.
Emerson was crawling all over me like a jungle gym like usual, so I dipped her head into the water while she was upside down hanging over my shoulder. When she came back up, she had this amazing hair-do, and I couldn’t get enough of it!
Emerson got out of the pool before the rest of us, so Grammy and Grandmommie got her dried and dressed, and she had an early dinner. She ate an entire tomato sandwich, plus cheese and a granola bar and some applesauce & chocolate milk. That girl worked up an appetite swimming!
Papa’s Father’s Day dinner request was a simple sandwich bar, because sammies are his fave. (And one of my faves too!) But Mama jazzed it up a bit with fancy sandwich rolls, tuna salad, pasta salad, French onion dip, and a small charcuterie board as well. Everything was so yummy!
And since Emmie ate such a great dinner, she was rewarded wit a blue dum-dum lollipop, that all the triplets were very interested in watching her eat.
After swimming, dinner, play time, dessert, lots of hugs and kisses, Emmie and I headed home. And when we got there, Jeff and the boys had just gotten there a little bit ahead of us, and Emerson was so, so excited to see her brothers! She would only let Ryan get her out of her car seat, and then almost immediately she had him read her a book before bedtime.
We also gave Daddy his handmade card and a few Father’s Day gifts, including a t-shirt with a picture of Yoda that says, “Yoda best Dad Ever,” which was a hit for sure.
We missed having Daddy home with us all day, but we still had a great day, and we’re thankful for the time we did get with him. We also loved spending time with the rest of the family, celebrating Papa & Uncle Bo.
The boys want to watch the whole Star Wars series of movies, but I think we’re going to talk them into picking up where we left off with our Marvel Marathon, since we’ve only watched the first three or so of the 15-20ish movies. It’s always hard to find something that appeals to all four of us, so I think Marvel & Star Wars might be the ticket!
