Double Sick Days

(This is a double post for Sunday 10/16 & Monday 10/17.)

SUNDAY

Beautiful girls at church yesterday morning, smiling up at Addie’s new favorite friend at GC, Renae, aka “Aunt Nay,” as Meg and the trippies call her. 🙂

Our friends Jay & Kaytlin joined us at church again yesterday for their second visit (along with their two kids), and it was of course another great church service. I made it through, but I was feeling rough and sooo tired. So we got Whataburger curbside pickup, and these goofies played with video filters while we waited, and went straight home to eat lunch.

The girls danced around for a few minutes after eating, while I sleepily watched in my favorite chair. Then it was time for naps, and I out-napped all of them, and slept for three hours. That’s so unlike me though, so I knew when I laid down at 1:45, but didn’t wake up again until 4:50, that I was in need of serious rest.

Then by the time I woke up and got moving again, we had just a little bit of time to laze around the living room all together, and it was already dinner time. I let Jeff take charge of everything, and he made the girls both PB&J’s, and he made us our leftover pizza, and it was actually even better the second time, warmed up in the air-fryer.

After dinner, they made a run over to his parents’ house to help them with something, and I watched a movie on the couch. Then Jeff put Addie to sleep very easily, and Emmie and I laid down in my bed together, and her and I were both out cold super fast. So even though I napped for 3 hours, and didn’t do hardly anything all day, I still went to bed way easier than usual.

MONDAY

Emerson had the day off school today for a teacher planning day, so Little Miss Strawberry Shortcake went to school by herself this morning with Daddy. I was still feeling really bad (oh, I did take an at-home covid test last night, and it was negative; guess it’s just a bad cold?), so I took a sick day for myself off work today.

While they were gone, Emmie was entertaining me, doing “the panda dance,” (which is just something random she was making up on the spot). Then we worked on this tiny 100-piece puzzle for a bit, and cuddled for a bit watching tv, and then did some watercolor painting together, while Jeff worked for just a couple of hours.

The puzzle and painting with my girl was actually really restful and relaxing, and while we were painting (and listening to Taylor Swift’s “Evermore” album together), she so sweetly said, “This is just lovely.” And I very much agreed.

I painted the outline of the penguin for her, and then she painted it all in, and he turned out really cute. Then I painted the orange from watching a TikTok video, and she copied me completely on her own, and I was so proud of how well she did with that!

Then after Jeff signed off work for the day, he took her over to hang out and have lunch with Nana, and she played on her swing for a while. Then they met up with Britteny & Elly for a playdate at Tom Brown Park.

And of course she had to have an icee on the way home. When Jeff went up to pay, the guy said, “You’re good. Have a blessed day.” And then said he was giving it them for free, because she was just so adorable! Then Emmie smiled up at him so big, and hit made the guy happy 🙂

I wished I could have gone too, but I was just not up for that. Instead, I spent a little while starting a new puzzle (although I was clearly struggling to get the edges to match up), and then laid down on the couch to rest. I chose to watch “Chocolat” on Netflix, which is one of my all-time favorite old-school comfort movies.

Eventually, Jeff and Emmie went to Growing Room to pick up Addie, and then they made their way home. But she did have a good day at school!

Before they got home though, I mustered up just enough energy to put together a chicken & rice casserole for dinner. It’s a super easy dish, and only takes about 15 minutes to mix up, but it still wore me out. But it came out perfect & delicious! We finished it up with steam-in-bag microwave broccoli, and ate dinner on the back porch.

Emmie was super sweaty, and Addie had casserole in her hair, so Jeff got them both in the bath tub to get them cleaned up. I helped get them both dried and dressed when they were done, and ready for bed. We had a little bit of puzzle time, and a little bit of cuddle time, and I got the leftovers put away. Then we did a modified bedtime routine, since I still didn’t feel like doing all our usual stuff.

(Emmie has a nice collection of orange Cheeto dust in the corner of her mouth for this photo, haha)

It’s only 9:15pm right now, and I usually don’t go to sleep until 11pm on a typical weeknight, but I have a feeling I’ll have an early bedtime again tonight. I am feeling better today than yesterday, just have an annoying cough still (and of course stuffy nose) that I’m sure will last way too long.
