Two Youngins

Well apparently she threw up sometime in the night, silently in her sleep (we all slept through it), because it was dried on her sheets when she woke up this morning. And I felt terrible. 😭 So before it was even 7am, she was already fresh from the bath, and dressed in a new strawberry outfit from Grammy.

She had some little cookie/cracker things for a morning snack, while we cuddled on the couch watching “Frozen.” With ice water. I offered toast with butter, but she gets very adamant when she makes up her mind! Then Daddy woke up, so she cuddled with him for a bit, while I mixed up some lemon poppyseed muffins for breakfast, then washed last night’s dishes while they baked in the oven. Then her and I shared a little plate of muffins, but she was trying to share with her little friends!

Then we did some playing and stickers and reading and some cleaning, and watching the cars out the front window.

(Please make sure you notice her arms.)

I had gotten some Lunchables for the boys when they were on sale at Publix last week, and there was one left. So Emerson had that for her lunch today, and she loved it! She ate really well. I think she ate five of the little cracker stack sandwiches. We let her play a little bit more, and then got her down for her nap time.

After getting Emerson down for her nap (which was super easy because she was so tired), I made sandwiches for the rest of us. The boys wanted simple turkey & mayo, Jeff wanted the bread toasted for his turkey sammich, but then we ran out of turkey. But that was fine by me, because I made myself a fancy parmesan & provolone grilled cheese, which was so yummy. Plus, this slightly-flat Dr. Pepper I found in the fridge, from when I made Dr. Pepper chicken last week.

OK, quick break in the day for a few throwback photos… First, tiny, one-month-old Emerson. Eek! So tiny and so precious!

And then mine and Jeff’s first photo together, back just a few months after we started dating, in 2011! (WOW my hair was crazy blonde.) This was at Ryan & Gabe’s fifth birthday party, but I honestly don’t know what this “pose” was about.

When it came up in my memories on Facebook today, I said, “Wow, look at these two youngins!” and passed the phone to Jeff. Emmie said, “I wanna see,” so I handed it to her and asked, “who is this?!” She said, “two youngins!” I thought it was hilarious! She eventually did realize it was mommy & daddy, but she kept repeating “two youngins!”

Emerson napped for a solid two hours, and we all just kinda took it easy during that time. She had a snack when she woke up, and we played for a bit. Then we made a quick trip to Trader Joe’s for a few back-to-school gifts (it was too chaotic though once we got them for a photo) for her new teachers, to take to orientation! (Since it had been so long since the last throw-up incident, and she had been acting fine all day, we decided to go for it, especially since she wasn’t gonna actually play or interact with other kids in just those few minutes.)

Of course she just had to have a banana in TJ’s. I’m sure we’ll never go there without getting her one.

Her old teacher, Ms. Q, gave Emerson a bag of gummy bears when we visited her in her classroom, which Emmie was super excited about.

We had some more play time at home, and the boys worked on packing and cleaning. Nana had made an extra chicken & rice casserole a few weeks back, froze it, then sent it home for us. So all I had to do for dinner tonight was thaw it out during the day, and then throw it in the oven tonight! Plus I went to all the trouble of slicing & buttering a small loaf of Trader Joe’s sourdough, and threw it in the oven too. Oh, I also nuked a couple cans of green beans. 😄

Emerson ate so well! She finished her first serving before I even realized it, and then we got her a little more. And she finished that too!

She chose to wear her mermaid nightgown tonight, and then she came back to the living room to give bubba’s night-night hugs, plus she wanted to eat one Oreo on the couch.

She didn’t want books again tonight, so we just did prayers and lullabies, and she was good to go. Luckily, she was perfectly normal all day, with no more sickness or tummy aches or throw up. So I don’t know if it was a super short stomach bug, or she just had a little bit of food poisoning or something…? Either way, I’m very glad it wasn’t too terrible, and that she was fine all day today! PTL! 🙌🏼

While Jeff and the boys worked on some computer stuff, and started packing their stuff in the car to head home tomorrow, I got out all new Mrs. Meyers cleaning products for the kitchen sink, and washed up all the dishes. We actually ate on paper plates tonight, but there were some things that accumulated throughout the day, likes cups & silverware & tupperwares, from my fridge clean-out earlier in the day. It didn’t take long though, and then I finished up by scrubbing the sink with my Bon-Ami cleanser. (Have I mentioned lately how much I like getting cleaning products in the mail through Grove Collaborative?! Click here for $35 of free products when you sign up the first tkme!)

I’m going to read for a little bit while they finish up their stuff, and then we’ll watch a little TV together. Tonight is our last night together until they come back the next time, which will be during their Christmas break (we get them every other Thanksgiving, in even years). I’m sure Emerson will ask for them a zillion times over the next few days, and it’ll be sad since she won’t understand why they’re not here anymore. We’ve had a great six weeks though (with relatively few, minor-ish problems), and we’ve all enjoyed our time as a 5-fam. We made it!
