I was off work again today, for one last full day, because we were supposed to go to the cardiologist’s office here in town. But there were a few miscommunications, and long story short – the appointment isn’t until Friday afternoon. So that just meant I got to spend one more day at home, doing nothing but being with my girl! We started off the morning with some “cunch cunch.”
We got ourselves dressed and ready first thing this morning (in anticipation for the appointment that didn’t happen), but this precious girl looked absolutely beautiful! As usual, though, right?!
We just spent the whole day doing whatever she wanted (and I tried to squeeze in some small chores and tidying up as I could), and even though she was very touchy and sensitive and whiny today, we still had a good day together.
Let me tell ya though, doing a paint project with a three-year-old makes it difficult to relinquish control, especially for my controlling, Enneagram Type 1 self. I did let her do most of it by herself though (with some serious coaching), and then I just did some touch-ups at the end. And it turned out god and there was very minimal mess! (If I remember correctly, I think this was in the bag of goodies from Miss Jessica.)
And then we had a special visit from Aunt Meggie and Uncle Bo! They had been dying to see Emmie since we got back, and just couldn’t wait any longer. So they came over from their work-from-church office during their lunch break (their church is 5 minutes from our house), because and brought her a gift from themselves, and one from one of Emmie’s old teachers, Ms. Sheila, as well.
They stayed for about 30-45 minutes just playing and seeing Emmie’s big girl bed and loving on each other after not seeing them for almost two weeks. Emmie ate some cheese noodles for lunch while they were here, and then I made myself this delicious lunch of turkey & cheddar sliders and leftover broccoli slaw salad, and it was all soo good. I actually put just one tamed pickled jalapeno on each slider, and it was just the kind of kick the sliders needed!
Emmie had nap time after I finished my lunch, and she slept for about an hour and a half today. I really didn’t do much while she napped other than watch Netflix and scroll through my phone. A Mama is literally never still while a toddler is awake, so I figured I’d just veg out while she was asleep, and continue doing my tiny chores as I could once she woke up again.
After she woke up, she really wanted Pretzel to get up in her new big girl bed, so I called him and coaxed him and patted the bed for about five minutes, and finally got him to hop up there with him. She loved him and hugged him and covered him up with her “bankelet.” She covered him up halfway way and said something like, “he’s got the stars on him.” Then she covered him up completely and said, “Now he’s ALLLL the stars!!!”
I’ve had a huge stack of all her school artwork piling up on the table on the side of the kitchen, for longer than I care to admit (although I’ll say some of it was Christmas-themed art), so today I finally dealt with that. And by “dealt with” I mean I take pictures of each art piece, save the very special ones, and then “recycle” all the rest of them. She enjoyed looking back through all of them with me, and was quick to point out “E for Emerson!”
We went out to fill up our bird feeders that were all completely empty after our time away, and she was the biggest tiny helper girl.
She then requested an apple for her (second) afternoon snack, ate about one slice worth, and then decided she was done. Toddlers, man…
We spent some time cuddling on the couch, watching Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, and I just couldn’t handle how precious she was with her tiny cheek resting on her tiny fist, with her dress covering her itty bitty legs.
I finally cooked dinner tonight, for the first time in two weeks. And by “cooked,” I mean I boiled water for some noodles, and defrosted & microwaved some fancy bolognese sauce I made a few months ago & stored the leftovers in the freezer. But everything was delicious!
We had a little playtime after dinner, coloring the new Baby Shark pages that Aunt Meggie & Uncle Bo gave her today. We had a little issue over sharing markers and sharing coloring pages, but once we got that little hissy fit out of the way, we did some more coloring together and things were fine.
She also needed a snack after dinner, even though she ate every single noodle in her bowl, so she chose one of the fruit roll-ups from our overflowing snack station. And this one had tongue tattoos on it, which she was super excited about!
She opted to sleep in the same dress she wore today (which I mean, why not, it was super soft and comfy), and we read a couple of books together.
She was super sweet going through all of our bedtime routine, but then once again she wasn’t tired and didn’t want to go to sleep and didn’t want us to leave her room. It took at least another 30-ish minutes (on top of the first 30-ish minutes) of Jeff and I taking turns trying to get her to settle down.
For my last turn, I sang her another lullaby, we had two minutes of quiet time, and then I said another bedtime prayer and asked Jesus to calm her mind and quiet her heart and help her fall asleep fast. She then said, “But I need someone to save me.” I said, “Save you? Save you from what?” And she said, “The owl, Mommy.” Apparently she had heard an owl hooting outside her window earlier, and it scared her. I assured her that the owl can’t get in our house, but even if he did, Mommy & Daddy would definitely keep her safe. That was about 30 minutes ago, and she’s been quiet since then, so here’s hoping she sleeps well the rest of the night, and that no owls get any of us!
