Toddler Tantrums

Today started out with a beautiful sky on the drive to daycare!

And today was “ice cream cone romper” day for Emerson. She loves this outfit, and will call it by the full title, “ice cream cone romper.” It’s adorable hearing her say it! Actually, she has just really started talking a TON lately. She’s putting together all sorts of sentences, and just really impressing me with what & how much she knows. She’s a smart little cookie!

For lunch today, my work friends spontaneously decided to go out for pizza, and it was definitely a good decision. I got the summer special, Peachy Keen, and it was delicious! We also had a great time laughing and just being silly. It’s good to get out of the office together every now and then! (Side note – we also ran into my Aunt Suzanne & Uncle Keith there as well, on their weekly Thursday lunch date.)

And it looks like Emmie had a good day at school!

After picking her up, she just marched right over to the little shelf of “library” books in the front lobby, and decided we needed to borrow one for the night!

And she was so excited, she couldn’t even wait to get home! I had to convince her to get up, and promise we’d read it at home.

Once we got home, Emerson wanted a snack, so she had one of Trader Joe’s version of a Pirouette cookie. (I know it looks like a cigar, but it’s not, it’s a cookie, I promise 😂)

Jeff was mowing the front yard with the new mower, and I was going to attempt to cook dinner. But Miss Priss wouldn’t let me. She was very clingy and emotional, and just wanted us to sit on the couch. She didn’t want to eat any of the other things I offered her (rice, yogurt, crackers, pretzels, cheese, etc…), and would only eat cookies. So she had 2 of the “tall cookies” and half a small individual-sized bag of little fudge striped cookies.

Then she freaked out on me when I wouldn’t grab the three extra paci’s off the coffee table and put them on the couch for her. I told her she could get them, but she got very mad about it, and proceeded to throw a fit for at least 10 minutes. She was super upset about it, and I started crying a little too while trying to get her to just calm down.

Then she wanted pink milk (which I got for her), but then she freaked out and cried when some spilled/dripped on her. Then when we went to change into her jammies, she got mad at me that I wouldn’t let her put the PJ top on her legs, while she still had her romper on. 🤦 Y’all. It was just a night.

Once we were settled in her chair in her room for books & prayers, she was finally calm, and we had a few really sweet moments together. Which this Mama desperately needed from her! She gave me kisses, and we rubbed the tips of our noses together, and said “I love you.” I held her and sang our lullabies, and I thanked God for my perfect, precious child. I kissed her on the forehead, and laid her down in her crib, and she was sound asleep.

I’m not exactly sure why she was so sensitive tonight, but we made it through, and I’m positive she’ll be back to her normal, spunky, happy, sweet self in the morning. I don’t share all of this toddler tantrum stuff from tonight to complain, but just because I know sometimes being a mom is hard, and we feel like we must be the only ones struggling. But we’re not! We all have these nights! Toddlers are bananas sometimes! Sometimes they only eat cookies for dinner! So my fellow Mama’s – I’m right there with y’all, and we can do it…

Anyways, after all that, while I washed the random piled up dishes of Tupperware & cups, Jeff ran to grab dinner for us, since we hadn’t eaten and I no longer felt like cooking. He brought me home some nachos bell grande from Taco Bell, and I devoured it, nestled comfy on the couch. (Which is a rare treat, since we almost always eat at the dinner table.) We are now both resting, watching random videos on YouTube, and hoping for a quiet evening and an early bedtime.
