So last night, we kept Emerson up about an hour later, hoping that she wouldn’t wake up at the butt-crack of dawn this morning, but than plan was foiled… She woke up the first time this morning at 5:15 (which was right on schedule with the time change, since she wakes herself up at 6:15 almost every single day), but I convinced her to go back to sleep, for another 45 minutes or so, and then we were up for good by 6:30am. So by 7am, we were in the kitchen mixing together some bread dough!
And then we plopped some cinnamon rolls into the oven as well.
And of course this little girl just had to help herself to some of the icing, after I finished up.
We spent a lot of time this morning playing and watching videos and cuddling, while Jeff was at church running the big camera for the livestream video. I tried to watch as much of the service as I could here & there, but it’s very difficult to do with a crazy three-year-old nearby. I got her all settled in to my bed watching a Blippi camping video, while I got showered and dressed.
I got her dressed in some super cute star tights, she picked out her hair bow, and then we headed out to run some errands together.
We drove all the way across town to take Pretzel to Petco to get his nails trimmed, only to find out they were booked and we didn’t have an appointment, and they couldn’t work us in.
So after that (and a stressful, failed attempt to get some chicken nuggets for a pre-lunch snack for a starving toddler), we just headed back over to our side of town. I finally found a Burger King that wasn’t totally packed, so we swung through there to get Emmie a kids meal. (EVERYWHERE on our side of town near campus was super crazy {like legitimately, all the drive-thru lines were overflowing the parking lots}, once all the college kids woke up at noon & finally got out to feed their Halloween hangovers…) Jeff tried to go about three places to get lunch for him and I, and was finally able to get us some sammiches from Firehouse Subs.
Nap time did not go well, even though she woke up SUPER early and was tired and whiny by 10:30am, she still didn’t want to nap. And even once Jeff finally got her down, she only slept for about 45 minutes. She woke up crying and whining, and refused to go back to sleep, even though we tried very hard to get her to see reason. Obviously she was exhausted and only needed more sleep, but she wouldn’t have that. I snuggled her up in my bed trying to calm her down, but she still didn’t want to sleep. We laid there, not sleeping, for about 45 more minutes just resting and calming down. Daylight savings, or time change, whatever you wanna call it, is NOT fun for parents of little ones that don’t understand the concept…
She had gotten sauce all over her shirt at lunch, then slept in her nightgown, and so we had to put on a whole new outfit after nap time. We played in her room for a while, cooking in her kitchen, and then headed off to Publix to grab a red bell pepper & mushrooms, that I forgot to order in our grocery pick-up yesterday, for tonight’s frittata for dinner.
She was super fascinated and enthralled by the veggie mister, and wanted to just stand there feeling the mist for the longest time.
She also wants to weigh herself on this thing every time we come. And news flash, she still only a whopping 26 pounds. 🙂
And then we finally got to spend some time outside, in that perfect weather we had this afternoon! We went to the park close to our house, and had a great time at the playground, walking on the boardwalk, and watching the puppies play at the dog park.
We went back home and proceeded to make a HUGE mess in her room, or at least further along the mess that was already there… It looked like a small tornado came through there! We did take sometime to clean up at least 75% of this before dinner, so that’s progress over perfection, right 😉
My boss found this cute little bicycle sign at her house that she used to have hanging but didn’t want anymore. She asked if I wanted, I said yes, and so she brought it to me at work a while back. I finally got around to hanging it up on the front porch, and it looks adorable there, and it goes so well with the stuff I already had out there!
My bread looked perfect and delicious when it came out of the oven, but sadly, it wasn’t cooked all the way through, and even though I kept putting it back into the oven, by the time I finally got it cooked, it was darker and crisper than usual, and a bit overcooked at that point. (I’ve since then chatted back and forth with my friend McKenzie who is an actual trained chef/baker, and I think I’ve figured out the problem with my bread, which I will remedy the next time I try baking it.)
The frittata on the other hand, came out perfectly, just as always! So we just had the frittata & strawberries tonight, and sadly no bread. But it was still delish!
While I was cooking the frittata for dinner, I was also boiling a pot of noodles. Then after dinner, I added pesto, sundried tomatoes, artichokes, Italian dressing and Parmesan cheese, to make a pesto pasta salad. When Connie and I were sharing recipes last week, this is one of the ones she sent me, and it was right up my alley. It sounded so perfect for me (I’m obsessed with pesto), that I couldn’t believe I hadn’t made something like this ever before!?
While I finished the pasta, and then washed up a ton of dishes, Jeff did Emerson’s bath time and got her dressed in her jammies and ready for bed. I joined them for the bedtime routine, and then got lots of super sweet hugs.
And in the weirdest year of all of our lives, it’s somehow already November and the holiday season is almost upon us. I’ve barely been “in the mood” for any holidays or seasons thus far, because of all the weirdness in general and the weirdness of time, so we’ll see how the whole holiday season goes this year. Has anyone else felt like that this year? It’s just felt so weird and strange.
Since I was able to get the kitchen all cleaned up earlier, I don’t have any chores left now, except to sit on my couch and rest a bit, before I most likely fall asleep right there on the couch.
