Symphony

I love these sweet girls, and how much they love each other. Emerson was dressed fancy this morning, to go on a special field trip with her class to see the Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra perform a special Christmas musical!

Also, you can see where Sheppy chose to “hang out” on her first night around the house last night, hanging on the clock behind them.

Look how cute Emmie’s hair turned out today! I love those little curls at the ends of her hair. And I especially love the Christmas tree claw clip.

And Pennie came out to “her corner” of the backyard to see us off this morning. And you can see our loaded down orange tree there too, which is almost ready for harvesting. They’re usually perfectly ripe right around Christmas, so we need to pick one to test and see how they’re doing. This cold weather is actually good for them though, and helps them ripen up, as long is doesn’t get too cold.

And here are some pictures Emerson’s teacher sent us today, of their class field trip to the symphony. There were also some dancers, acrobats, and other performers during the music, and she was just bursting telling me about how cool everything was.

Addie insisted on a little banana snack when we got home, while I was cooking dinner.

And these citrus carnitas tacos (pre-made meat from Aldi) with refried beans & Mexican rice on the side were soooo good. This is about the third time we’ve had this carnitas pack from Aldi, and we love it.

After dinner, we had some arts & crafts time, engineering the CN Tower for Emerson’s gifted class project on landmarks. She did the report portion of the assignment with me earlier this week, and tonight Jeff helped her design and build the tower out of materials found in our recycling bin. They were both the architect and the engineer together, but Jeff did all the dangerous x-acto knife cutting and hot gluing.

Addie had to get in on all the crafty action, so I just let her paint a piece of cardboard while we worked.

After they finished building, her and I painted the whole thing white. It took a couple of coats, but it’s looking pretty decent. Not the best, but she loves it and she’s proud of it! Plus, the teacher said it didn’t have to be a “masterpiece,” it just needed to showcase their ideas, and it does just that!

We did watch a couple episodes of Bluey after finishing everything, and then Emmie and I read a chapter of the Boxcar Children together. She always reads a couple of pages on her own, and then I come and read until the end of the chapter. And her and I are both loving the story!

I am currently way too freezing to spend time washing dishes, so that’s just gonna wait for another day. Instead, I think it’s time for hot tea and cuddling up on the couch with a blanket and a Christmas movie!
