Strawberry Shortcake

Emerson wore a super cute dress she got for her birthday last year (size 4 that just now fits), and Addison wore a new dress she got for her first birthday (size 6-9m), and the one of her friends gave her this hand-me-down sweater in church this morning. (Or at least that’s what she said, but I need to text some moms to confirm that… 😉 ) And both girls just looked so stinking cute! We’ve been calling Addison “Strawberry Shortcake” all day long, which is cute because she is a little shortcake!

My cousin Aaron and his (pregnant with their first child) wife Mandy came into town from Missouri, before heading for a beach vacation. We all went out to lunch at Willie Jewell’s after church, and Addie took to them right away.

I got the beans & mac to share with Addie, but she didn’t like the beans, and made the funniest little face when she first tried them. But it was so cute, I had to give her a second bite just to see the face. That’s really the first thing she hasn’t liked so far, but the whole thing was just funny.

We went home after lunch for the girls to nap, and I started working on my puzzle a little more. Then Jeff and I watched the latest video from our favorite YouTube “friends” while he tried to rock Addie to sleep. Emerson went down right away, but Addison fought her nap for soooo long, that eventually Emerson was awake after her nap, so we just let Addison get up and play some more without having ever slept.

Iced coffee thief…

Around 3:30, I finally decided to put Addie in her swing so Emmie and I could make some jello (that we had leftover from making the jello poke cake last weekend), and she wanted to do the puzzle some more too.

It took forever, but finally around 4:15 or so, she finally just fell asleep in her swing, and I left her there to nap for about an hour or so.

Jeff had taken a nap this afternoon once Addie fell asleep, but once I woke him up, Emerson and I went outside to do some grand experiments she had dreamed up in that little brain of hers. She told me she needed bowls, water, ice a spoon, and she’d get all the other ingredients outside. So together we collected dirt and leaves and flowers and grass and the last of the oregano from our herb garden, and she just went to town.

While she was busy working I said, “You’re a good scientist.” And she said, “I might become one when I grow bigger, cuz I’m good at being one. Maybe I can be an artist scientist and do both things!”

I put together two quick BBQ chicken pizzas for dinner, and we watched the classic “Jungle Book” and ate in the living room.

Normally I love putting fresh cilantro on this pizza, but I didn’t have any, so I did green onions instead, and liked that a lot too.

Nana gave Emerson this nail polish in her VPK graduation gift, and as soon as I painted her first foot tonight, she was like, “Wow my nails are SO pretty.”

She asked to read our bedtime book in Mommy’s bed, and she even found some of her sight-words from school, and Addison fell asleep easily with Daddy tonight, after being awake most of the day.

I just had to take a few more minutes to work on my puzzle after we got both girls to sleep, and I made such good progress today. Honestly, Emerson really did help me with this today, putting together a few pieces all on her own, and popping them into the puzzle right where they belonged.

Unfortunately, I have a sink full of dishes I need to go take care of before I can sit down to rest, but then I definitely want to just sit down and rest…
