Addie was being a little shy for morning sister pics, hiding her face in Emmie’s hands. But she perked up and smiled when Pennie wandered over and hung out next to Mama.
Both baby girls were just so precious in pink today too, with their little matching gold sandals too.
Addie specifically told me to take her picture here by the tree when we got to school.
When I got to to work, I used my coworkers empty office, as she was off today, to set up my soup station, to get my un-stuffed bell pepper soup going in the crock-pot. I had a mild panic attack walking into the building when I realized I had forgotten my can opener, and even asked around and found one from a coworker, only to realize I never even needed one. I was calling this my, “Used-to-be-a-blonde moment.”
Then I had a quick breakfast of cottage cheese toast with EBTB seasoning and some hot honey drizzled on top.
I put the rice in the crock-pot around 10:45, and then by 11:45 I had helped get everything set up and wrote little name cards for all the different soups. This was actually my idea to have this today, and even came up with the silly pun for the name, and then my Bureau Chief ran with it and made this little flier she emailed to the Bureau, and then did some minor patriotic themed decor, all to go with the election day theme for today.
We had eight different soups, plus some crackers and chips and tiny corn breads, and a few desserts as well. Everyone just got small scoops of the soups and kind of rotated around the table trying as many soups as they wanted, or as much as they could. (We did something similar back in 2022.)
I personally tried six of the soups (including my own), and this lasagna soup, topped with ricotta & parmesan cheeses, was my absolute favorite! I voted for this one, which ended up winning second place. (I had tons of compliments on my soup, but did not place in voting, which was fine 😉 )
My cousin’s wife Mandy brought some of these pecans with them from Missouri and they gave me a bag last weekend. They’re extremely good as-is, just like this, but I also wanted to try roasting some. So I just melted some butter and mixed the nuts in the butter and salt, and roasted for 15 minutes, and used those as a topping for the Aldi pumpkin soup we had with dinner tonight. (Totally coincidentally ended up having soup for lunch and dinner today, but I loved that.)
Just made some easy ham & Swiss grilled cheese sammies with Dijon mustard, and then heated up some Aldi pumpkin maple bisque. I topped it with a splash of cream, pepitas, bacon bits, and the roasted pecans. There was a bit of a slight fall theme to the meal, and it was all very yummy and comforting.
The girls got cleaned up in the bathtub after dinner, and Jeff got the dinner stuff tidied up and put away while I took care of them. I picked out clean jammies for both girls, then they had a bedtime snack and watched Bluey. Bedtime went pretty smoothly tonight for both girls, and even Jeff fell asleep in the recliner…
I need to go wash some dishes now, so of course I’ll listen to an audio book while I work, and then we’ll check in on the election results and see what’s going on by that time, since it’s not yet final at this point…
