Little Emmie didn’t have a great drop-off again today, but it was at least a little better than yesterday. Yesterday, they had to peel her off of me crying (which was terrible, and I cried to leave her), but today, even though she was upset, she did walk straight into Ms. Renee’s arms, and let her pick her up. She was still upset and sniveling a little, but it was at least smoother today.
But she had told Ms. Renee she wanted to see the babies when they got there, so when the saw them pull in from the front desk, they got Emmie back out of her classroom, and she was waiting in the lobby when they walked inside, and she got to help walk them down the hall! All three of the girls wanted to hug Emmie and hold her hands, and she did a good job herding them to class 🙂
My MIL Nita made some homemade chicken noodle soup and homemade chicken salad the other day, and brought us plenty to share when she brought home Emmie last night. So Jeff and I both had this delicious soup for lunch today, and it was soooo good. She puts Velveeta in the soup, so it’s nice and creamy, but actually doesn’t really taste cheesy at all.
After she perked up a bit, Emerson had a good day at school, even though she only took a short little nap today.
After picking her up from school today, we came home and I got straight to work on making chili for dinner. After about 20 minutes in the kitchen, it was all ready to go, so I turned the stove down low and let it simmer for another 20 minutes. I was laying down on the couch, with Emmie curled up next to me watching Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, and got super tired. So Jeff did all the last minute stuff and got everything served up and on the table. Emmie climbed up on the counter to “help” him, and they were just so cute together.
On the way home, I was explaining to her what I was cooking, and what was in chili (meat, beans, tomatoes, like soup, all mixed together in one pot), and made sure to hype up the fact that we then top it with cheese and sour cream (her fave), and eat it with Ritz crackers. After all of that description, she was like, “I will try the crackers.” As if she had to consider whether or not she’d try a buttery cracker… Which, of course she would!
We got everything mixed in together in her bowl though (with plenty of sour cream), and told her she had to try at least two bites. Well, turns out she actually liked it, and said, “When I finish this, can I please have some more?” So we got her a second helping, and she ate so well!
It turned out great, and Jeff even had two bowls, but I was stuffed after one bowl (and plenty of crackers). We still had plenty leftover for a few more lunches, which both Jeff and I are excited about, as we both agree chili always gets better the next day!
We had some fun, silly playtime after dinner, where she was pretending this tiny vacuum of hers was actually a baby, and she was carrying it around, patting it, and saying it was sleepy. Her imagination is just growing and growing so big lately!
We got her in her jammies (after much running around and playing and romping around the house for a while with Daddy), and finally settled down for some bedtime stories.
We’ve read the “Henry has Heart Surgery” book a couple nights in a row (we took a break for a while), but she’s been really into it again. She has also said a few times lately, that she wants to be a doctor or nurse or something, but the past few nights, she’s specifically said she wants to take care of other little kids after they have heart surgery. Isn’t that precious? And wouldn’t that be incredible if she really did that when she grew up!?
As I was laying her down and tucking her in, after singing all the lullabies, on my way out of the room I said, “Night night, sleep tight!” And she said, “No, sleep loose!” So I laughed and said, “OK sure, sleep loose, baby!” So, sleep loose friends!
