Reading is Groovy

Gilchrist has a special theme this year, of “Reading is Groovy,” and today was the kick-off. So they were supposed to dress groovy today – luckily Emerson had a tie-dye shirt that was perfect for today. And Addison was just a cute little cowgirl, in an old hand-me-down dress that was a gift from Grammy & Papa from a trip they took to Texas like four years ago.

Addison did great at drop-off today, and so did Emerson!

Jeff said they had “moved the gate,” so he got to walk her up closer to the building, and she did so much better with that. Hopefully it stays that way now!

To go with our reading is groovy theme today, I finished an audiobook titled “Book Lovers,” which was really cute and I enjoyed it a lot.

I really enjoyed my lunch break today – had some leftover pot roast, started a new physical library book, and marveled at how great this little plan of mine is doing lately.

Looks like Addie enjoyed coloring at school today.

And Emmie’s teacher sent us all a picture of her class today! She said, “We’ve had a GROOVY day!! Lots of peace signs, tie dye, and hearts!” I was so excited to see a pic of her at school!

And after school pick-up went SO quickly today, I didn’t even have to wait in line, but just drove straight up to the very front of the school, and Emmie was out in about 30 seconds!

On the way home from school, Emerson was telling me about the two girls in the picture next to her above. She said, “Those girls are Name (redacted) & Name (redacted). I think they’re gonna be my best friends.” I said, “Oh that’s great, Emmie. Did you tell them that?” She said, “No I hadn’t decided on it when I was at school.” Then she was silent for about 15 seconds, and she said, “Yeah, they’re my best friends. I’ll tell them on Monday.” So praise the Lord she’s making good friends!!!

After I picked up the girls, Jeff got oven preheated, and put some frozen pizzas into the oven. They still had some time to bake when we got home, so I spent some time working and cleaning the kitchen, while the pizza finished up.

Then after dinner we took snacks & desserts back to Addie’s room for some play time together, while Jeff ran an errand to the store.

Eventually, Emerson asked to go play on her Kindle, so Addison and I had some one-on-one playtime, and we read lots of books together. Because after all, reading is groovy!

I went to check on Emmie later, and she was watching a baking competition show 🙂

When Jeff got back home, he got Addison in her jammies, and got her some milk and rocked her to sleep. I was in Emmie’s room with her, so I don’t know for sure, but I didn’t hear any crying or whining, and he seemed to be able to go lay her down really quickly. Meanwhile, Emmie and I spent a while doing some groovy reading – one library book, one chapter of Matilda, and her girls’ daily devotional.

Emmie was also super sleepy, and was actually ready to lay down and settle in for the night. I’m not doing anymore chores tonight, because I just wanna sit down and relax the rest of the night, and ignore all my responsibilities on a Friday night!
