Pedicure, Piano, Penne & (O)Possum

First thing this morning, Emerson was just being a perfect little tot, eating a snack and watching some videos on her tiny stool, while Daddy and I got ready.

After church, she wanted Grammy to ride with us on the golf cart back to our car, because she wasn’t ready to leave her yet.

We were in a big hurry after work, so we stopped at BK for some nuggets & burgers. I wanted Taco Bell again (those nachos were just so good!), but Emmie was asking for chicken. So chicken it was!

After she finished eating, she walked over and grabbed “her” ukulele, and started playing and singing “Jesus Loves Me.”

Then she dragged her rocking chair over because she wanted to sit close to Mommy. Notice my dress and the arm of the chair, for some perspective of how close she was to me šŸ˜‰

Emmie went down to nap after lunch, and she slept for about two hours. While I was putting her down, Jeff’s dad came over to the house to pick him up and drive to the airport. He’s in Miami this week, continuing his cyber security training, but this time he’s with 7 or 8 of his co-workers, specializing in security for banks. (He works for the banking division of the Department of Financial Services.) So anyways, he’s there now, and so Emmie and I are on our own again for a couple of days, until he gets back.

She had a good nap, and woke up ready to play and was being so sweet. She also asked for pink toes, so I gave her another little pedicure. And look at how excited she was about it! I had to re-do a few of them like three times, and I had to tell her like one hundred times not to wiggle her toes, but I got her to sit still(ish) for five whole minutes, so they could finally dry with my super quick-dry top coat.

And excuse me? Is she like 13 years old, sitting there having a snack while waiting on her pedicure to dry?!

And then we went from pedicures to dinosaurs and lizards.

And then she threw a fit when I couldn’t figure out which video she wanted to watch. To my credit, I tried like 20 different ones, and she wasn’t happy with any of them. So I just turned it off and distracted her by starting to play with some other toys.

Then Nana stopped by for a quick visit, to bring us a couple of little things she bought us while she was out of town this weekend. She got Emmie this cute little pumpkin outfit, and she wanted to try it on right away.

Nana ended up staying for dinner, and I made a really nice, super simple pasta meal. I had all this leftover penne from “the stinky turkey meat” dinner last week, and I wanted to do somethingĀ different with the noodles. I just happen to come across this super simple recipe in the New York Times last week, and tonight was the perfect night to make it. Jeff doesn’t really like tomatoes, so he wouldn’t have enjoyed this, but Nita and I loved it! One of the comments on the post said they added basil, and since basil is like, one of my favorite things ever, I of course thought that sounded like a great idea.

You guys. This was like, the most basic stuff, but MAN it. was. good. Can’t wait to have the leftovers for lunch at work tomorrow!

MVIMG_20191020_182451

Emmie just had butter noodles and apple sauce though, which was perfect for her!

MVIMG_20191020_182745

And you guys. Here’s the crazy part of today. The gift Nita got me was a cute wooden pumpkin with a big “P” on it, to hang in the carport by our side door. (I usually have a cute little wooden mason jar with flowers I painted hanging there.) So I stepped out to switch them out, and looked down and thought I saw something in the trash can. (We keep one outside just for random stuff.) When I looked back down, there was a opossum in there! And it scared me so bad! It was stirring slightly and it’s mouth was halfway open and moving, and I screeched and ran back inside! Emmie saw/heard me, and she got scared and cried. Nita just laughed at me, but I was freaked out!

I called a pest control company I found on Google, but they don’t actually work on the weekends. He said I could call him back first thing in the morning and he would come take care of it, but it would cost me like, $300!! I called my Dad, and he explained it was probably not dead, just kind of stuck in the trash can, and half asleep, since they’re nocturnal animals. So his suggestion was to wait until it’s my bedtime, and then use a broom to knock it over so it can crawl out at night on it’s own. So I guess that’s what I’ll do in an hour or so, and pray it’s not still sitting in my carport when we try to leave in the morning! UGH! So gross! (Sorry the trashcan is so disgusting, but itĀ is just an outdoor trashcan, sooo….)

Anyways, Nana headed out, and Emmie and I played for a little while longer. She played the piano for Mickey…

This is her looking over at Mickey in the stroller, saying, “listen to my song, Mickey.”

We did a video call with Daddy, and she told him about dinner and having tea time with Mickey, and about our surprise visit from Nana.

She also found this random T-Mobile hat, and thought it was hilarious.

Even though she had been wearing her little strawberry nightgown most of the day, she wanted to change into her new Halloween jammies she picked out at Walmart yesterday.

And then she picked a cheese stick for her snack, with milk in her purple cup.

MVIMG_20191020_192937

We spent about 15-20 minutes doing bedtime reading and chatting and watching a video of “twinkle twinkle little star” and saying night-night prayers, and then I spent about 30 minutes rocking her and singing lullabies and trying to convince her it was OK to go to bed. I finally laid her down and told her I needed to go to the bathroom, but that I would come back and check on her. It took about 15-20 minutes of moaning and groaning and whining and “mommy mommy mommy,” but she finally settled down.

After all of that, I decided to just ignore the dishes again tonight, and I’ll deal with them all tomorrow. I’m just ready to settle down and watch some tv, and praying the deal with the opossum works out fine later! Eek, I’m nervous!
