Orange Harvest & Book Club

Cuties in their matching Baby Yoda sweatshirts, ready for the day!

I cannot stand how stinking cute these girls are!!!

We ran a few errands this morning, starting at Home Goods, looking for a few gifts for a few of my friends. Then we did some fancy grocery shopping at Fresh Market. We were given a $100 gift card there for Christmas, and yet we still had to put $70 with it! It was pricey, but I’m excited about the meals we picked out (we’ll be doing mostly their pre-made kits & meals this week).

The best deal we found there, is also the thing I’m probably most excited for, for fresh 2 for $5 bleu cheese burger patties. Yum!

We also picked out our lunches there and brought everything back home. Emmie and Addie had ham & cheese pinwheels with grapes and watermelon, and Jeff and I both shared spicy shrimp sushi and garlic parm wings, my fave was the sushi though.

Even though Addie had fallen asleep for a short nap in the car after shopping, she still needed a real nap, and ended up sleeping for about two hours once Jeff rocked her to sleep.

Ooh we also got some fresh sourdough bread this morning, that we had for a little snack after everyone had some rest time. Jeff and I both took a quick little 30-minute nap, and Emmie played on her Kindle. I also washed up a ton of dishes that had been piling up the last couple of days.

Then after we had our snack, we went outside and harvested our oranges! Like I said the other day, I was afraid they had been ruined by the week of freezing temperatures, but for the most part, they were still good!

We did all the orange-picking while Addison was asleep. Then the girls played when she woke up, and Jeff trimmed up a few random trees that were growing inside of our other plants/bushes.

These girls were SO silly and goofy out there playing. They were running around chasing each other, giggling like crazy, and screeching and screaming. In the photos below, they were just staring at each other, screeching, then looking over at me giggling.

We packed up and went over to drop-off Jeff and the girls at his parents’ house, and then I went to my very first book club, ever! I brought fresh guacamole (bought at Fresh Market this morning), my friend Ashlee made this delicious “Sombrero dip,” and our hostess made us chicken burrito bowls.

We had all read “The Second Mrs. Astor,” which was historical fiction about the second wife of the infamous Jacob James Astor, who passed in the sinking of the Titanic. It was more about the beginning of their love story and relationship, and less of the Titanic part, which I wish it had been more of the Titanic part, but it was still a good read.

And I loved hanging out with and meeting new friends, and talking about life and books and movies, without any little ones around. I’ve wanted to be in a book club for years, and I’m so glad that my friend started this one up last month, and invited me to join too! (Their first meeting was when we took our little weekend getaway to Miramar Beach, so I missed that, but I loved jumping in tonight.)

Meanwhile, Jeff and the girls had Chinese take-out with his parents. Then the girls had a bath, and loved playing around on this super soft faux-fur rug Nana pulled out for them to play on for a long time.

I went back to pick them up after book club, and then we went back home to get the girls in bed for a late bedtime. Emerson was super sleepy and she was out like a light in no time flat. Addison on the other hand is still being held in Jeff’s arms, because she needed a little extra loves and cuddles.

We never got around to taking the Christmas tree down today, but we did do the dishes, lots of laundry, and picked around 300 oranges, so I’d still say that was a good amount of the to-do list, actually done. And maybe tomorrow we’ll get around to taking the tree down…
