My Car Broke Down

Ok so my blog post title today is not just for click bait, it’s real, but we’ll get to that later. This was actually a weird, not-so-good Monday. A few things…

1. I woke up with a sinus headache, and menstrual cramps. Blah.

2. Emmie wanted to wear a (clean) pink gardening “glub” this morning while eating her pre-breakfast Hawaiian roll before school. It’s hard to see because she was excitedly waving it around everywhere, but that’s the pink blur in the photos below.

3. Drop-off did not go very smoothly, because Ms. Q was out, and I believe Emmie is teething again, so she was fussier and more clingy than usual.

4. The power in our entire building (and apparently like 6 blocks around us) went out right around 11:45am. We didn’t know at the time, but found out later it was because of an oopsie in the construction near Cascades Park, and they got it back in within an hour (even though we were crossing our fingers it would take too long, and we’d be sent home early). In the meantime, I called up my dad, and he took me to lunch at Chicken Salad Chick! (In other work-related stuff, I somehow lost access to one our shared network drives today, and was having issues with some of our other software programs. It was a weird day.)

5. I wore a new dress today, and even though you can’t quite see the pretty teal color from the lighting in the photo, I really love this dress.

6. Emmie plopped down in the floor to check out the book options at her school book fair.

7. And here’s where my car story comes in… Right as I pulled in at daycare, I started feeling warm in the car, but didn’t think much of it, since the sun had been beating down through my window right before that at the stoplight. But after getting Emmie, and driving only a couple minutes away, by the time j turned on Live Oak Plantation, the a/c was no longer cool, and the temperature gage on my dashboard was all the way up at hot. The light came on, and it was consistently dinging at me, and there was a little bit of smoke coming from the hood. So I called my dad and pulled off on Timberlane School Road, turned off the car and got Emmie out. We stood on the side of the road for about 15 minutes, waiting on my dad to make it through the traffic on Meridian (they live in Midtown), and come check it out. Meanwhile, I also called Jeff, and he hopped in the car to come from home, but he was much further away. My dad came without even changing clothes, and started checking things out. (Note – Emerson loved the extra outside time, and was having fun with sticks of all sizes.)

Apparently, that hose on the right is supposed to be attached. But for whatever reason, the radiator cap broke, and the hose fell off, and all the radiator fluid broke.

We grabbed all of our stuff out of my car, and loaded up in the Jeep, and Papa took us back to their house. Jeff met us there, then Emerson and I stayed, while the guys went to find and buy a new part, then go back and work on the car. It took them a couple of trips, because the auto shop didn’t know what they needed, so they had to go back and pull out the broken part, to bring it back to show them. Then they ended up having to buy a whole kit complete with hoses, rather than just the connector part that was needed.

8. At my mom’s house, Emerson had beanie weenies and a buttered hamburger bun for dinner, and she loved both!

After Emerson ate, The three of us watched part of a dog show, and did some coloring, and Grammy and Emerson sang “Jesus Loves Me” together, and I almost cried it was so sweet. once the guys told us they were almost finished with the car, Mom and I wipped up dinner really quick for the adults to eat. And of course Emerson needed a second dinner as well (we’re pretty sure she’s a Hobbit), so she had some rice and cornbread, while sitting on the table.

We kept Emerson up outway past her bedtime, but she actually did really well, and didn’t get to grumpy. I drove my car home afterwards, and it did perfectly fine. Hoping and praying that was the only issue, and everything will be good now.

9. We did bedtime for Emerson as soon as we got home. wow Daddy started reading her books, she pointed to her pile of toys and animals, saying “baby, baby.” So I pointed at each one individually until she decided which one she wanted, and she ended up picking these two bunnies.

She fell asleep almost instantly, with no fighting, but it was almost an hour and a half past her usual bedtime by the time She laid down in her crib.

10. Jeff is feeling better after another day of rest, and he’s almost back to his normal self. He still needs to take it easy for a couple of days, and make sure he doesn’t overdo it, but he’s on the mend now. Thank you all for your prayers and concern, and thank you for texting and reaching out to make sure we’re okay. We appreciate all of you!

11. Let me also just take a minute to shout-out my awesome parents for rescuing us off the side of the road in the heat, hosting us in the a/c, feeding us dinner, and just generally being awesome. Tonight would have been much more difficult without them!

After all that hoopla, I’m a completely exhausted from this Manic Monday. Time for bed!
