It has been a long, full, amazing first Mother’s Day for me. We spent all day with family, and it was just a special day. You can’t really ever know how much your parents love you, until you become a parent yourself, and experience this kind of motherly love for yourself. Having my little precious girl now, puts my own mother, and everything she does for us, in a whole new light. (I know it’s cliche, but wow it’s so true.) So thank you Mommy, for being the most amazing mother!
This morning at church, we dedicated Emerson to the Lord. In our Baptist Church, it’s not a sacrament or baptizing her, but just committing to raise her in a Christian home, as a part of the local church. And that was really special. We got to write & share a few words for her, about how we hope she grows up. We always chose a life verse for her, Romans 15:13. It’s really hard to condense it down to just a few sentences how you want your daughter to grow up, but here’s what we came up with and shared this morning…
“Emerson, we pray you are kind and compassionate, with a sweet heart for all you meet. We hope you are creative and continue to love art and music like Mommy and Daddy. We pray that you find confidence in yourself and in your faith through Christ Jesus. Always be slow to anger, and quick to forgive, seeking Godly wisdom in all that you do. Emmie-cille, you always bring us so much joy! We pray you grow up to find your own joy, and share it with the rest of the world!”
After church, we took some family photos, and then all had lunch at my parents house. We hung out there for a while, just enjoying each other’s company.
Then we headed to my in-laws house for dinner. We ordered Olive Garden take-out, so no one had to cook or clean, and that was a brilliant and delicious idea.
It was one of those exhausting but full days, filled with so much love and special memories. I know I will always remember my first Mother’s Day, with my little baby twin!
