Mixing & Matching

For the past few weeks, Emerson has wanted Grammy to pick her up from her Sunday school class at the end of church. They had some other obligations today, so she had to settle for Mommy picking her up, and but then we ran to go find Grammy & Papa, and she was so glad to see them!

Oh, and on the way to church this morning, we were talking about some random animals, and the sounds they make and the things they do. I asked her what goes hop (thinking she’d say a bunny rabbit), but she thought about it for a second, and said, “grasshopper!” And she’s not wrong!

We were all going out to lunch together, and Emmie didn’t want to let go of Grammy, so I rode with Papa, and Grammy rode with Jeff, in the back seat with Emerson.

And then we had a super delicious lunch at Pepper’s. I’ve never had anything bad there, but today’s chicken & mushroom quesadilla was like, really, really good. And Emerson loved eating chips & cheese!

Please notice her little tongue sticking out below! I love it! 🙂

Grammy told her she had some treats for her in her purse for after lunch, so Emmie stood there sweetly, holding her hands out. And Grammy just kept producing tons & tons of treats! She ended up finding two lollipops, one small pack of M&M’s, and a bag of cookies. But Papa was like, “hey, those were my cookies!” And Emerson just said, “No.” Super simple, but no.

I let her eat the M&M’s on the way home. Then she was giving me a little reenactment of the treat-getting. She was holding her cookies in both hands, and was like, “Gammy said hold out hands, and Gammy said close your eyes, and cookies!” It was so cute and funny!

I wanted to make sure to get a good photo of this little outfit, so our current favorite photo spot is on the sidewalk across from our house, where we can find some shade. (Our yard doesn’t have enough trees.) Grammy got her this from TJ Maxx a while back, but it was too big. The little top is actually really thick and warm, so it was perfect for this chilly morning. And she looks so stinking adorable!

We got Emmie changed into a clean diaper and some comfy-casual clothes, and then I got her down for her nap pretty easily. Then I went into the kitchen to start the chicken marinating, to make Indian Butter Chicken for dinner. I also made myself a cup of hot tea, using the new tea-leaf strainer Aunt Jane surprised me with at church this morning. (Jeff was off doing some computer work again.)

I drank my delicious mug of tea and watched an episode of “Call the Midwife” while Emerson napped, and then wrote the first half of this blog post.

The afternoon sunshine was so beautiful streaming through the front windows today during Emmie’s nap time.

And this tree in our front yard (which I’m pretty sure is a Japanese Magnolia?), is also beautiful right now!

After Emerson woke up from her nap, we wanted to go outside and enjoy the beautiful weather. This little fashionista helped put together this outfit, and wow. So many colors and patterns, and just wow! 🙂 She really did it up big with the mixing and matching today!

Then we went on a tiny little walk up and down our straight, holding hands, looking at the trees (she was like, “it’s up way high mommy!”), and pick up rocks and stuffing them in her pockets.

Her onesie says, “Snuggle this Muggle.” (That’s a Harry Potter reference, for those that don’t know.) We’ve had it for a while, but it was too big for so long, and now it just barellyyyyy fit her.

We had to go run some errands up on the North Monroe side of town, so we wanted to check out the Fresh 4 Less grocery store, since we’d never been before. And there were lots of great deals, and it was definitely cheaper! We got all sorts of stuff – lettuce, croutons, snacks, & condiments, all for less than $50!

She loved seeing this giant Clydesdale horse statue on the edge of the produce section 😉 MVIMG_20191124_164745

She saw this car buggy on our way out, and wanted to go back into the store and shop again. I told her she could get in and check it out, but that we’d have to wait to use it the next time we came back.

After our errands, I cooked the Indian Butter Chicken for dinner, with Basmati rice and naan bread.

Everything tasted delicious, and I went ahead and made up our bowls of leftovers for tomorrow’s lunches. Buuutttt, then I found a piece of basically-still-raw chicken on my plate, and so that made me lose my appetite. I’m not sure what happened, but I think maybe two pieces must have been laying on top of each other in the skillet, and so the top piece never touched the heat and didn’t cook through. Even though we tried to check all the remaining chicken pieces to see if they were cooked, I just didn’t feel safe about it, so we threw away tomorrow’s lunches 🙁

Emerson had her leftover chicken & fries from lunch, and then played with Play-Doh in a big girl chair. And then she decided she was hungry again, and ate more of her chicken.

She then carried her candy bucket back to the living room, and dug through it until she found what she wanted. She chose a watermelon lollipop, and had about 5 licks of it, and then wanted me to wrap it back up again, so she could get down and play.

She didn’t want to wear her llama jammies again (for some unknown reason), so we dug through her drawer until we found one we both agreed on (I just wanted to make sure she was warm). And these hand-me-down, fleece footie jammies were perfect!

She did pretty good at bedtime, even though we had to repeat the final lullaby song one time. And she did pop up and repeat “grasshopper” at one point for no reason whatsoever, so there’s that. I’m freezing cold now, so I’ve got my warm, cozy robe on, and it’s time for another mug of hot tea!
