Emerson was looking very cute and sporty for school today, in this hot pink racer back tank. But she was all by herself for school today…
Because after some inner debate (in my own head), I decided to keep Addie home today after her concussion last night. Technically, the ER doctor last night, nor the CDC, suggested she needed to be kept out of school. But I just really wanted her to have a day of rest and low activity, free of playgrounds and chaos. So to start our day, I introduced her to my favorite egg-in-the-hole for her first time, and she loved it. (I also got that zero calorie caramel sauce back there, that’s specifically for coffee, and it’s very good mixed in with my pumpkin oat milk creamer!)

We were not really supposed to be watching too much tv, but we did watch a little bit of Harry Potter while we ate. Then she helped me finish my puzzle, and she did some water painting. And she requested I paint her nails, one hand pink & one hand green (for Glinda & Elphaba), so we did that too.

Mostly though, she was really feeling great and acting like her usual self. And I figured a good way to keep us busy without watching movies, was to go out to visit Grandmommie! It was a nice, calm, screen-free activity, and we would love to visit her. Then she suggested we could also go out to lunch at her favorite Mexican restaurant out there, and that was such a nice treat too.

We went back to Grandmommie’s house for a while after lunch, where the two of them just chit-chatted and Addie showed Grandmommie everything she packed in her little purse, and cut up some magazine clippings with the kids’ safety scissors she had. Meanwhile, I was reading on the bottom level of the tri-level bunk, and eventually had to just close my eyes and nap for a little bit…
We left to go pick up Emerson from school early, in the car-rider line, which took forever and a day, and then we headed home for a slow afternoon. I was only able to keep them calm and chill for about 30 minutes though, and then I kept having to holler out and remind them, “Chill out, Addie has a brain injury!” or “Addie, quit jumping on the bed, you’re gonna bump your head again!”
Our “calmest” activity was sitting in the floor going through clean laundry, packing up their tiny suitcases to take on our upcoming LDW getaway. And that was some hoopla with those crazy girls!

We had Gorton’s fish fillets with peas & shells for dinner, and then Emerson decided she wanted some of my pickled carrots, so the girls and I finished off our dinner with the baby carrots I had thrown into the old Grillo’s brine after making that pickle dip a couple weeks ago. And since they were loving them, I was like, “If you’re a real pickle girl like mama, you’ll try drinking a little sip of the juice!” And they both did it, and liked it, actually!

We got the leftovers from dinner put away, and rinsed off the dishes, and then the had a bath and Jeff started another load of laundry, since Addie and I had done one during the day as well. We had a video call with Grammy and Papa so they could check in on Addie Pie, and then straight to bed, because the girls were exhausted. I’m currently watching “Eat, Pray, Love,” again as just something random and comforting, and I’m gonna repaint my nails again before our little mini vacay this weekend.
