My sick, sleepy little girl actually slept in a little today. Grandmommie came over around 7:15, I left for work around 7:30, and Emmie didn’t even wake up until 7:50. So I didn’t even get to see her this morning, which made me sad, but I was also glad she was getting good sleep… especially since she woke up at 12:45am with fever, crying and thirsty. So I changed her diaper, we gave her Tylenol & a sip of ice water, and I sang lullabies and rocked her back to sleep. Anyways, Jeff was still at home when she woke up this morning, and he said she was doing better, and happy to see Grandmommie.
Grandmommie sent me a few photos throughout the day, and said she was more active and playful today, and less puny overall. I think she ate better today as well, since she barely ate anything for lunch or snack yesterday.
On my lunch break, I went out into the beautiful weather, to run a couple of quick errands. I went to Winn Dixie to grab chicken broth & egg noodles (to use for dinner tonight), I grabbed a free Whopper with a couple from BK, and then picked up two library books before heading back to work.
Work was crazy & chaotic like usual, but not quite as bad as some other days have been lately. And since my girl was already at home, I got to head straight home again after work. After plenty of hugs & kisses (cheek only, trying not to share germs) from my girl, I got to work in the kitchen making Instant Pot Chicken Noodle Soup, from my favorite food blogger. I had invited Grandmommie to stay for dinner, so her and Emerson played while I chopped veggies and got everything going, before Jeff got home.
Grandmommie had brought over a little bag of activities (she’s a real life Mary Poppins), and one of those activities today was learning to use some safety scissors. She loved it, and cut up all sorts of things, like paper dolls, and even some hearts she told me were for her twin BFF’s at school. And um, excuse me? She’s giving hearts to boys now? Whyyy is she growing up?!
Jeff shredded the chicken for me after it pressure cooked (he loves using his bear claws), and then we put it back in the broth with the noodles for a little while longer, and then the soup was ready to go! I also toasted some naan bread to go with it (since I forgot to get a baguette of crispy bread), and then ended up going well with it.
Grandmommie stayed and ate dinner with us (Emmie had some very sensitive meltdowns during dinner and barely ate anything), and then she headed home after we finished eating. Emerson crawled up on the bar stool to watch while I divvied up leftovers & cleaned up a bit, and she started licking the butter spoon from the bread!
Plenty of leftovers, even after we all had seconds tonight – enough for Jeff and I to both take a bowl to lunch tomorrow, and I’ll leave one at home for Grandmommie to have for her lunch, when she comes back to our house tomorrow. Emmie was about 80% back to normal today, but she did still have a low-ish fever this morning, so we’ll keep her out of school for another day.
After she finished licking the knife, she wanted to put it in the sink all by herself. So I moved her stool over for her, and she turned the water on and rinsed it off and everything!
It was difficult to get her to calm down for bedtime tonight. She was trying all the old stall tactics, including reading all the books. But it was so precious when she was reading her Bible story book, telling me all about Noah & the ark, and Moses!
After lots of negotiating and stalling and whining and crying, 45 minutes later, I finally laid her down in her bed. She was absolutely exhausted tonight (I could see it in her eyes when I first got home), so I’m hoping she sleeps really well tonight, and doesn’t wake up at all!
Well, I blogged first instead of washing the dishes first like usual, and since y’all have seen the photo above with the sink overflowing, I’d say I’ve got some clean-up work to take care of! After that, I’ll settle in on our new couch, and probably read some of “Little Women,” while Jeff plays a video game.
