My very fashionable toddler specifically requested to wear a hair bow today. So Mommy made sure to pick and outfit and headband to match each other today – pink leopard print with a cream headband! And of course she looks adorable! Poor little thing has a super runny nose though, and is just very congested. But since she didn’t have a fever, we gave her some children’s Claritin (which will hopefully help dry out her nose) and sent her on to school for the day.
Some of you may remember a while back, I tried to buy & wear foundation like a grown-up lady. I’ve always only ever used this same face powder, since like, the 8th grade. Which I really like. I have my “normal” color, and then a “summer” color for when I get a bit of a tan. Also, I’m just generally a big fan of Cover Girl makeup, and I always use their eyeliner and mascara in addition to the face powder.
Well when I got foundation a while back, for some reason I didn’t even think about trying out CG’s, but got a Maybelline kind, based off an Instagrammer’s recommendation. (She has beautiful make-up, so I trusted her.) But even though the color & coverage were decent, it made my face feel sooo oily! I already have oily skin, and that stuff just made it worse. So I stopped using it, and eventually gave it to my sister to try, who said it made her face feel oily too. (For the record, her face is generally less oily than mine.)
Anyways, I finally had the bright idea to check out Cover Girl’s foundation. And lo & behold, they make a line of foundation that specifically goes with the type of powder I was already using. With the same color names/numbers and everything. I picked some up over the weekend, and have used it a couple of times now, and I already like this better than the other stuff. It’s super light-feeling on my face (it literally feels like nothing other than my usual powder), and my face feels smooth and soft and not at all oily. Not that anyone asked for all this make-up info, but there ya go anyways… 😉
On this date last year, we threw the first triplet baby shower. At this point, it was still early and they didn’t even know the gender’s yet. We had a beautiful shower, and so many sweet friends and family came to support Meg and her three tiny artichokes! (That’s how big they were at the time 😉 )
And in comparison, here there are, one year later, before church yesterday!
For lunch, I had delicious leftover’s from last night – Bleu cheese chicken burger (I even brought a small container for the lettuce & tomato, and a separate one for the Bleu cheese crumbles), and potatoes, and I made myself another salad too. I listened to my Elton John audio book (once again, it’s due back in three days, and I still have about 8.5 hours left, and tons of other people have holds, so it would take months to get it back again), and painted my nails while listening. (I ended up getting super full from burger, potatoes & salad, so I saved the carrots for my afternoon snack.)
The book fair came to our office today. My friends and I walked down to check it this morning, but I hadn’t taken my wallet, figuring that I didn’t buy anything the last few times, and so I probably wouldn’t today either. And then of course I found few good deals on some good books. So after a surprise fire drill this afternoon, after spending a short 5 minutes waiting outside for the “all clear,” I went back and bought a few things to save for Christmas gifts – the look & find puppy book for Emerson, and a set of Disney board books for the triplets.
Emmie was thrilled to find a bag of cereal waiting in the car for her after school. The girl loves her snacks. And after I buckled her in, I looked up to see this pretty sky!
Jeff had Deacon’s meeting at church tonight (or so he thought…), so he just worked a little later, and then went straight to the church. So Emmie and I were on our own for dinner at home. To keep it simple, and to not waste food, I had some of the leftover chicken & yellow rice from Saturday night, and I made her a little cup of Velveeta shells & cheese, since she likes that better anyways. She searched through her candy bucket, picking out what she wanted to eat after dinner. She also found this little witch finger, that she thought was hilarious.
Ooh, another “hack” I learned from @TheLazyGenius is to make your kids’ plate (or bowl of mac) first, then stick it in the freezer while you make the other plates, in order to cool it down just enough for “wimpy tongues” to eat it without getting burned. I’ve been doing this for a couple months now, and it works like a charm.
She folded her little hands once she was in her seat, and instantly started praying. She said, “Jesus loves me… church… friends… family!” So I said, “Amen!”
She had picked out a chocolate tootsie pop, so I let her start on it after dinner. She got tired of it after just a few licks, and we wrapped it back up, put it on the table, and ran off to the dining room to play… Where she got out just about every single thing she could find.
She was pouring me tea.
And rocking and singing “Jesus Loves Me,” putting Mickey Mouse to sleep.
Then we went to her bedroom, where I had to trap a half-dead cockroach under a cup, for Jeff to take care of when he got home.
But when we got back into the living room, we saw Pretzel had snatched up her lollipop. I grabbed it away from him, but Emmie was upset about it. So we picked another one, a mini strawberry one, that was the perfect size for her.
And then after getting all the way out to church, and realizing he had missed an email about the meeting getting changed to Thursday this month, he turned around and came back. He stopped to grab chicken fingers on the way home, and Emerson was more than happy to help him eat his dinner.
She had been reaching in and grabbing her own bites, dipping it in the honey mustard. But then she saw Daddy feed a bite to Pretzel, and she wanted Daddy to feed a bit to her too.
And then he just looked so cute and funny, sitting up on his butt like this!
After she ate almost an entire chicken strip, and plenty of fries, we read a few books together.
And then went back to get her in her jammies, and get her ready for bed. She held Daddy while I said her night-night prayers, and then as he was leaving the room, she told me she just wanted to talk.
So then we just sat and chatted for about five minutes, while she told me about her day. She told me her best friends at school were William and Andrew (twins), and that they went pee-pee in the potty today. We then talked about how she needs to start going pee-pee in the potty, and wearing big girl panties, and she thought that sounded like a good idea. She was rubbing her eyes so hard while we were talking, so I told her it was night-night time, but she tried to insist she wasn’t sleepy. But of course she was, and as soon as we started lullabies, she was quiet and calm and the good kind of heavy on my chest.
Since there are still only a few dishes in the sink (yesterday’s silverware & today’s Tupperware), I skipped it and I’ll do it all after I cook tomorrow’s dinner. Tonight though, we’re having ginger peach tea, and I’m having a slice of sweet potato pie. (Jeff doesn’t like sweet potatoes, and won’t even try the pie, even though I’m sure he’d love it.)
Emmie was so incredibly sweet and cute tonight. We had such great fun, and we didn’t have even one single issue or meltdown, with no whining all night. And any other mothers of two-year-olds know how rare that is. My girl means the world to me, and I cherish our sweet times like this so very much. The whole night was just so precious, and I loved every minute of this evening!
