SUNDAY
We started the day with breakfast at the hotel, which was actually very good. Then we did some Little Free Library hunting around town, and we found a few good ones. The very first one was Harry Potter themed, so that was a perfect start!
Next up, we spent an hour or two at the (free!) Air Force Museum, looking at planes, weapons, exhibits and lots of interesting things. The girls thought it was super cool, and we all had a great time checking the place out. The inside was nice and cold and air-conditioned, but seeing the planes outside was a different story, and it was brutally hot out there. We carried some umbrellas with us, but honestly we didn’t last long before we were melting down, both physically and emotionally 😄
In order to cool off at someplace indoors, and also kill some time before lunch time, we found a nearby thrift store, which ended up being absolutely HUGE. I searched the books and puzzles, but didn’t find anything for me. In contrast though, we found a few good clothing pieces for both girls, and some of them were even half-off, so we only spent $18 total.
And then it was time for lunch, and I just had to document me and my little bookworm, since we toted books with us everywhere all weekend, and read whenever we got a chance. She actually finished three whole books this weekend, as she was truly just locked in and flying through books. She actually only brought one with her, but finished it on the first night. So luckily she was able to find a few good ones at the LFL’s that morning, and she flew through some of those too. Plus, she also downloaded two on her Kindle, through Amazon Kids, which has some free books.
After lunch, we went back to the downtown area to visit this adorable little food truck hub area, Florida Place, for an afternoon coffee. They turned an old car wash into a permanent food truck spot, with three or four trucks, lots of umbrellas and chairs and corn hole and shaded seating areas under the old car wash pull-through areas, and even a little indoor roasting area with tables and chairs and cards and games. It’s all so cute and neat and a great area! We stayed an hung out a little, but the one tiny window a/c unit couldn’t keep up with the heat in that room, and we were once again melting…
And next up, was finally some time in the sand & sun & surf at the Gulf! The water was absolutely perfect and gorgeous. The temperature of the water wasn’t too warm, and it was sooo clear. The waves were also just enough fun to float around in, but not so much we felt like we were fighting for our lives, like the crazy Atlantic Ocean waves in Daytona back in June. We stayed out as long as we could, and we had the best time!
We went to Stewby’s for dinner, but not the one near the beach, because that one had a line out the front door about 30 people long, just waiting to get inside. So even though we were still in our bathing suits, instead we headed to the location more inland, where apparently the locals go anyways. And it was delicious. I got grilled mahi mahi with a side salad and potato salad, and just had to try out the gumbo as well. And we all agreed this place and this meal was our favorite of the whole weekend.
The girls were worn out Sunday night, and crashed out almost immediately after we got showers and got cleaned up and into our jammies. I loved how both of them were sleeping too, Addie with all three of her stuffies tucked in tight underneath her, and Emmie with her hands up on her face for some reason.
And Jeff and I made sure to go to sleep at a good, earlier-than-usual time Sunday night, because we had a very early morning planned for our last day…
