Ice Cream After a Funeral

Both girls wanted a little fuzzy, furry friend for the car ride this morning, so Addie had a kitty, and Emmie had a puppy. And then they were ready for the day!

I thought it was too dark outside for pics, so we actually tried to take a few pics inside first, but I didn’t like them inside. Weird lighting/coloring…

This morning, my parents and I went to the funeral for a fallen TFD Captain, who was the husband of one of my very oldest friends Callie. Brenden was killed in a tragic car accident over the weekend, and the very emotional funeral service was held today. I’d never been to a funeral for a first responder before, but it was full of honor and respect and lots of love. It was the second hardest funeral I’ve ever been to (behind my Granddaddy’s service), and I was an emotional wreck during the service, and all day afterwards. I know Brenden loved the Lord though, so we know we’ll see him again in heaven one day!

My mom and I had lunch together after the service, to try to decompress a little bit, but neither of us could stop thinking about Callie and her two small boys. We always wish there was more we could do to help, but if you’re able and you’d like to, if you knew them or not, you can donate to their GoFundMe page here.

Look at these cute pics of Addie from today!

I ended up getting stuck at work until 5:45 today (which really sucked since I had such a rough afternoon, I had a headache from crying and was still so sad, and I was just counting down the minutes until 5pm), but luckily Jeff was able to head out to pick up the girls from school.

There was no possible way I felt like cooking tonight, so we went back to Culver’s again for dinner and ice cream. And time with my precious girls and my sweet husband (with the ice cream) helped heal my emotional heart a little bit tonight. (Even though I definitely started crying again, telling Jeff about the funeral service.)

I can’t handle the cuteness of this baby!

Emmie wanted to help Jeff with a little bit of yard work when we got home, but Addie and I mostly just played inside while they worked.

We read a library book at bedtime, and did our devotion and lullaby, and Emmie went to sleep really good tonight.

Addie fought us a little bit, but it didn’t take too long before Jeff got her to sleep as well. Going to get the cuddles I need from Jeff tonight (I just want to hold him close and thank the Lord I have him), and then fall asleep early after an emotionally draining day.
