Grandmommie Daycare

This morning was rainy and cloudy and gross, and I just wanted to cuddle up in the house and spend all day watching tv and napping and reading. But I made myself be a grown-up, and got out of bed and ready for work. When I left at 7:30 am, Emerson wasn’t even awake yet. Grandmommie came over at 7:15 to spend the day taking care of her, so I knew she’d be in good hands once she woke up.

Emerson got to spend the day at home doing all the things I wanted to do – cuddling, watching tv, reading books, and hanging out with Grandmommie. Here are the pictures she sent us throughout the day… It was like Grandmommie Daycare!

I had some more Cincinnati Chili leftovers for my lunch today, and started my first library book since I finished the last one on September 27th. I’ve read Kindle books & listened to audio books since then, but this is the first “real” book I’ve read in a month. Trying to get myself back into it, and maybe this fiction/fantasy/puzzle/clue-solving mystery will pull me back in.

Two years ago… the coldest day of her tiny life so far at that point, so we bundled her up for church real good. And she looked like a little marshmallow with that beanie!

And then later that night we went to the fall festival at Generations church, where we bundled her up like a lion, and she won a Chick-fil-A gift card for the best costume for 0-4-year-olds! I mean, is she not the cutest baby lion you’ve ever seen?!

My parents have been out of town since last Thursday, but they came home today. They weren’t planning to come to our house, but Grandmommie told Emerson they were on the way home, and Emmie thought it meant her home, and then she cried when she was told they weren’t coming. So her and Grandmommie called Grammy, and Emmie asked through tears and crying, “Gammy come to Emmie’s house?” And how could Grammy say no to that?

So they come over to see Emmie and visit with us, and eat dinner together. I made breakfast for dinner, with scrambled eggs, bacon, and pumpkin waffles from the Trader Joe’s boxed mix. They also brought a few little treats from their trip to Helen, GA (which is like a cute little Swiss town), like a little spinning top that looks like a cute lady and a set of nesting dolls for Emerson, plus a little cuckoo clock magnet for us. (We love collecting “place” magnets for our fridge, from places we go, or places our family goes.)

We used an old waffle-iron/sandwich-maker/grill plates, that I’ve had since sometime in college. Which makes it at minimum, 10 years old. It took forever to heat up, took forever to cook two waffles, and kept cooling down randomly. It was testy, to say the least. But with some help from both my Mama and Jeff, we eventually got enough waffles done for us to all start eating. And even after all the hoopla, the waffles were really yummy! (And it looks like I’ll be adding a new waffle iron to my Christmas list.)

She was dipping her scrambled eggs in her syrup…

And then Papa and Grammy had brought her a tiny bag of M&M’s so Papa was making her tell him the colors of each before she ate it. We joked it was a lesson & dessert!

After she gave everyone bye-bye hugs, we took her back to get a bath, and she was perfectly fine when the family left. (We were worried she would freak out with all of her people leaving her at once, but she was good.) She did really good in the bath tub, and then wanted to help get herself dressed. But she couldn’t get the pants up over her diapered booty, so she needed a little bit more help.

We made her very angry when we did another breathing treatment, but her chest was sounding a little rattle-y & wheezy. She hated it, and kept repeating “I don’t like it, Mommy!” She wore her headphones because it was too loud, and she had her paci, and Daddy was holding her, but she still cried through the whole 8-minute process.

But afterwards, she calmed down pretty quickly, and wanted to sit on the couch with Mommy and have gummies for a snack.

She got mad again when we tried to give her some Zarbee’s cough medicine, so we had to get her calmed down again before we could do normal bedtime stuff. But she did eventually settle down, and she let me hold her and sing our three lullabies, and then I laid her down really easily.

She hasn’t had any fever the whole day (after that first 101 first thing this morning), so as long as she doesn’t have a fever when she wakes up in the morning, we’re going to attempt to go back to school tomorrow. I love how much she loves school, and that she learns about life and colors and letters and playing with friends, but I’m very glad that Grandmommie has been able to come over to our house and take care of her these last couple of days.
