Goodie Basket

Megan decided they would start coming to school a little earlier again this week, so that we could all see each other a few more times before Emmie’s surgery. So we got there first, and I told Emmie I was going to take a few pics of her by herself before they got there, but they were already pulling in, and you can see how excited she was when she recognized their van!

And Emmie was such a sweet big cousin, helping hold the babies’ hands and getting their backpacks on, and making sure to give all three girls a big “good morning” hug. (In order below: Riley, Kensley, Ellie.)

The little girls were all happy and smiley and giggly with Emmie, but once they saw their teachers come outside to get them, they got a little upset! But Emerson helped take them to their classroom, and they seemed to start settling down relatively quickly after drop-off. And then not too long after, Meg & Bo got pictures of the triplets all painting, and I got pictures of Emmie drawing family portraits, so all was good!

Uncle Keith and Aunt Suzanne gifted us this bag of Lucky Goat coffee while we were at my parents’ house the other night, and we were very excited to brew today’s pot of coffee with this deliciousness. Thanks, guys!

All of the Walmart grocery pick-up time slots have been super full lately, and I’ve had a hard time getting weekend pick-up times. This past weekend they were all completely full, so I set it up for lunch time today from 12-1pm. I got an email at noon saying they were running late, and then another one at 12:35 saying it was ready. We checked in on the app in the parking spot at 12:47, and watched our favorite YouTubers while we waited. And waited… and waited…

They usually bring the stuff out within just a few minutes, and I’ve never even waited longer than 5 minutes. I started trying to call them about 15-20 minutes in, but they wouldn’t answer, and then it just went straight to voicemail a few times. I finally got someone to answer the phone at 1:30, and then he brought our groceries out at 1:37 pm – after we had been waiting there for 50 minutes. It was absolutely ridiculous! So now we’ve had two crazy-long wait times in two days. Craziness. And super frustrating.

I treated myself to a super yummy homemade iced vanilla chai, as an afternoon pick-me-up once we finally got the groceries and made it back home.

But this little nugget had a great day at school today! The caption for the drawing picture said they drew family portraits. So cute!

For a few sad throwback memories, on this date in 2017, we had to make the terrible decision to put down our sweet Primrose, after she ate some plastic or something and unexpectedly got super sick. They were going to perform emergency surgery, but it ended up being worse than they thought, and they didn’t think they could fix it, and even if they could, it wasn’t guaranteed to be a permanent fix. Jeff and I adopted her one month after we got married, and we only had her for just under four years. But she was the absolute BEST little rescue doggie ever. She was my first dog, and my first girl, and I miss her so much still!

And on this date two years ago, Emerson actually had her first surgery. She was born with a strange little thing on the side of her neck, that an ENT surgically removed when she was 13 months old. It turned out to be a weirdly misplaced piece of cartilage, and he removed it and everything was fine. (Old blog posts on that whole situation here and here.)

After getting home tonight, we had a little visit from Aunt Suzanne & Uncle Keith, who brought over a giant basket of goodies to take to the hospital in Jacksonville, put together by them and another sweet family from our church that we love. So huge Thank You, to the Powell’s and the Steverson’s!

For dinner, I made Steak and Bleu salads, and even made a homemade balsamic dijon salad dressing. And it was very yummy. Jeff absolutely loved it, and raved about it, and I felt very proud of myself 😉

They said our dinner prayers with their heads bowed together like this, which was of course super precious.

She is always very loving with Pretzel, and even though she’s super sweet, we always remind her to be gentle and careful with him. But he’s such a good boy, and he loves getting pets, and they were just cuddling so sweetly on the couch after dinner.

She of course had to choose a snack from the basket of new stuff, and she chose a little pouch of Scooby Snacks. She put it in her mouth like this and said, “This is how dogs put it in their moufs!”

And she needed another snack at bedtime (the girl never quits snacking), and she was practically drinking this can of Puffs. (I’m pretty sure she “stole” these Puffs from the triplet’s from Grammy’s house.)

Emmie was very much a Daddy’s girl tonight, and wanted him to hold her to watch the dinosaurs, and hold her for lullabies, and hold her for quiet time before bed. But she still needed Mama to come back for one more cuddle and to sing “Jesus Loves Me.” And I didn’t mind one bit.

Time to sit down and rest and relax a little bit with my hubby now. Night friends!
