Father’s Day 2023

For Father’s Day this morning, Jeff got the girls dressed and ready by himself since I was at church early for praise team, and then served on the tech team in the sound booth running the lighting. He takes care of us so well, and loves us so much, and we love him so much too!

Donuts with dad in GC Kids, between rehearsal and church starting.

We’re not really sure what phone call Addie was making in nursery, but it looks like it wasn’t going very well…

Daddy chose burgers at Relish for his Fathers Day lunch, and it was really yummy.

After lunch, Emmie sweetly took a little nap in her room in her sleeping bag. Addie on the other hand, fought Jeff for about 20 minutes, and then fought me hard for 10 minutes (so much so that my arms physically hurt from trying to hold her), and then she eventually flopped herself to the floor. She laid there crying for a few minutes, and when she started calming down, and tucking all her arms and legs underneath herself, I put a blanket on her, and just let her fall asleep right there in the floor. And then she actually napped there for like an hour and a half! Stubborn little girl.

And then after the girls woke up, Jeff went to see a movie with his dad for Father’s Day, and the girls and I went to Grammy and Papa’s house, to see my dad for Father’s Day. And of course we had to go for a swim first!

After getting dried and dressed, Ellie got Addie settled down in a cozy little nest, and covered her up, with two blankets. Then Kensley and Riley took turns bringing her pretend food and feeding it to her, and Addie even pretended to eat and drink everything. I was like, “Wait, the way y’all are treating her, is this y’all’s baby, or the queen?!”

We had a salad bar and a baked potato bar for dinner, and everything was delicious. (We also made to-go salads for Meg, Mom and I to all have for work lunches.) And then we finished up with cookie cake for dessert, after singing “Happy Father’s Day,” to the tune of “Happy Birthday.”

Big loves and cuddles for Papa before we hit the road back home. So thankful for this Papa of ours, and all the love he’s given us through the years, and the way he loves all these little granddaughters.

It was time to start bedtime right away, and both girls were super exhausted, from all their swimming. The four big girls literally swam back and forth from one end of the pool to the other, like 10 times, so they really wore themselves out.

I had taken Addison to her bed about an hour ago, but she’s actually starting to cry and wake up a little bit now, so we’ll have to get her calmed down and back to sleep again…
