Bedhead and morning puppy cuddles before getting ready this morning.
And then we were off to school, for the first time in about five weeks! Today was Go Pink for Breast Cancer day at school, so we got Emmie dressed in her bright pink, and got there to wait for the triplets’ arrival! They were all so very excited to see each other!
Ellie was particularly excited to see and hug cousin Emmie, but all of the girls wanted to hold Emmie’s hand on their walk into the building, and ended up all taking turns on the short walk.
I forgot to make myself breakfast at home today, and I definitely couldn’t skip the most important meal of the day, so I grabbed a sausage BOB and an OJ from Whataburger, and it was so yummy.
I didn’t actually eat my lunch outside today, but I did walk back and forth on this stretch of sidewalk for about 40 minutes, while doing a phone interview with a writer, who wants to write up a little story about Emerson, for Wolfson Children’s Hospital to use on their website and social media. It’ll be a few more weeks before it comes out, but I’m very excited about it!
I had a chat with the director Ms. Renee this morning to go over her “sternal precautions,” and make sure they knew how to pick her up correctly (under the rear, not under her arms). I was having a little bit of Mama-anxiety though, and ended up emailing Ms. Renee shortly after I got to work, just asking her to make sure ALL the teachers knew how to pick her up. I just knew that so many teachers (outside of the two regulars in her classroom) would be excited to see her and want to love her, and I was just nervous someone would pick her up the wrong way and hurt her chest or her incision site.
But I had regular reports from Emmie’s teacher Ms. Nicole and the director Ms. Renee, and although Emmie was a little fussy this morning (and definitely very tired by nap time), she had a good day, and was in a much better mood this afternoon after an almost-two-hour nap. She’s still not supposed to go on the playground for another two weeks, so during her class’s morning time, she visited a different class and had a great time. And during their afternoon time, she went around the center with Ms. Mercedes, helping count all the kids to make sure they were in ratio. (This is something she used to help Aunt Meggie with when she worked there, and now the other front desk ladies still take her around with them sometimes too.)
Megan told us that when they got there to pick up the triplets this afternoon, they saw Emmie helping with the count, and all the babies were so excited to see her and were loving on her and hugging her, and Riley didn’t want to leave her and just kept on hugging her!
We had our favorite meal tonight of taquitos with yellow rice and black beans. But we tried the corn tortilla ones instead of the flour, and those were even more delicious! Emerson ate her two (that I had cut up for her to cool), and then wanted one off my plate as well. The girl LOVES taquitos!
The weather was so gorgeous and perfect today, so we went out to the backyard after dinner, to soak up the last bits of the day before bedtime. We just sat in the grass chatting, with Emmie sweetly curled up in my legs for a while, until she finally got up and started running around. (I had also chosen to wear pink for GR’s Go Pink day, so we’re matching.)
We did a couple short video calls with Grammy, Papa & Grandmommie, and then Uncle Keith, Aunt Suzanne and Bella (the new puppy). We came inside to get Emerson ready for bedtime and we read a story about Mulan in the princess book.
Strangely, in the strangest year ever, it’s somehow made it to October already. March, and the start of the pandemic, feels like both four years ago, and also just like week. And yet here we are, very nearly starting into all the year-end holidays… I’m really not sure how we got here.
Heading off to bed early, to watch an episode of “When Calls the Heart” on Netflix, then go to sleep early, while Jeff does some computer work tonight for one of his side jobs. Night friends!
