Corndogs & Churros

We didn’t get the coffee made at home this morning before it was time for me to leave, so I made a cup in the Keurig when I got to the office. Which worked out great, and went perfectly with the donuts a coworker brought in today. Yum!

Emmie went back over to Uncle Keith’s house today with him and Grandmommie. She wanted to go over in her jammies, and it looks like she hung out in them for a while, just playing around the house, eating breakfast, and playing with Bella.

She did eventually get dressed and did more oft he same activities.

They went downtown to meet Aunt Suzanne for lunch at Dog et Al, and I’m sure Emmie enjoyed that giant corn dog!

Meanwhile, Jeff and I needed to switch cars (he drove mine this morning to drop off Emmie), so we decided to meet up for a lunch date. We planned to go to a new-ish place called Phat Fish Tacos & Burgers, but apparently they closed down during covid, with plans to open back up in August, but they’re still closed and their phone number is disconnected, so I’d say they’re probably closed for good.

But just one door down, is another new-ish restaurant we hadn’t yet tried, that I’d heard good things about, so we stopped into the Blossom Kitchen instead, and it was soooo good.

Jeff got the General Tso’s chicken combo that came with fried rice and an egg roll, and I got the curry chicken combo with the fried rice and egg rolls, and we got some crab rangoon to share. And honestly everything was really stinking good. It was all really fresh and flavorful and seemed authentic. We’ll definitely be back!

After lunch at Dog et Al, Uncle Keith took Emerson on another adventure this afternoon, to the Tallahassee Museum! And of course it looks like they had a great time together!

I met up with them after work to pick her up and get all her stuff, and she barely even wanted to leave Uncle Keith and Grandmommie! They did an amazing job taking care of her these two days, and I’m so thankful for them! And even though Aunt Suzanne wasn’t able to actually be with them, I know she took special care to make lots of preparations for Emmie, and bought some things to keep her entertained while at their house. So once again, thank you to all of our family members who have taken such great care of our girl post-surgery. It’s an incredible blessing that we have so many people who love and care for our baby girl!

After Emmie and I made a quick run through Home Goods (still looking for a pot for my new plant, that we didn’t find), we had made plans to meet up with Jeff for dinner at another new-to-us restaurant we wanted to try, Maria Maria. I got two of my favorite al pastor street tacos, and one chicken fajita taco, and both kinds were really good! My fave al pastor tacos so far in town are from Pancho’s. These weren’t better than those, but these were still good.

We got Emmie a chicken flauta from the kids menu, and told her it was a taquito like what we have at home, and she ate every single bite of it, plus plenty of rice.

So I’m part of a “Tallahassee Foodies” group on Facebook, and this week they started a new promotion called a “Restaurant Blitz,” spotlighting six local restaurants with incentives when visiting each of them during this week. They hope to bring new customers to local businesses, and help amp up sales during all the covid stuff, and spotlight new places for us to try. We had already tried five of the six places for this week (and frequent three of them), but Maria Maria was the only one for this week we hadn’t been to. So that’s why we tried it tonight. And they offered a free dessert with $20 minimum purchase, and we were all too happy to try out this delicious churro. It was sooo good!

It was almost bedtime by the time we got home, so we got Emmie dressed in a new pair of jammies, and read our assigned stories for the night.

Thank you to Aunt Jane for the cute dino onesie! This size 2T fits her perfectly 🙂

She actually completely skipped nap time today, and was still in a mostly good mood tonight. She had a small meltdown in Home Goods, but other than that, she was still a happy little girl, despite her big day, and no nap. She still tried to tell me she wasn’t tired and didn’t want to go to sleep, but her eyes were still so heavy, and she readily laid down in her bed. As I kissed her goodnight, I reminded her that she was going to school tomorrow, and she was like, “When I wake up, I’m going back to school?!?” I said, “YES!” And she said, “KAY BYE!” And then laid right down! I’m so glad she’s excited to go back to school, and I’m so glad that’s finally ready! It will be good to get her back on a normal routine, and back with her friends and teachers!
