Defying Gravity

Emerson had her sleepover with Grammy last night, so we only had little Addison at home this morning. She went on to school though, to play with her friends for most of the day.

After I dropped her off, I came back home to make myself some breakfast. I saw this “eggs in a cup” video the other day, and knew I needed to try it. It’s just soft-boiled eggs chopped up in a cup with S&P, eaten with buttered toast, but it looked so good! And it was in fact delicious.Very easy, very simple, tastes a lot like my favorite egg-in-the-hole, but easier to make, honestly.

Love the soft, jammy egg, spread on the buttery toast. So yummy.

After breakfast, I got a quick shower, and went up to AMC to meet my mama, to finally see “Wicked” together! I’ve been dying to see it, and we’ve been trying to line up our schedules with us and Meg ever since, but we’re all too busy. We finally had to ask Meg if we could go without her, since she’s on vacation in Georgia right now, and she was fine with that. And it was so stinking good! I have actually never seen the original Broadway production, but I’ve seen videos from it, and of course know some of the most infamous songs. But I absolutely loved this movie today, and will definitely need to see it again, which is good, since it should be on streaming soon, for free I hope!

Mama and I actually coordinated our shirts today too, so that we’d be in the proper pink & green colors, just like Galinda & Elphaba. Loved our little Mommy-Daughter movie date, which we haven’t done in years. Need to make time for this more often!

I had specifically avoiding the music from the movie until I could see the movie, so it wouldn’t be spoiled. But you know I immediately had to start listening to the soundtrack as soon as I got in the car!

Grammy went with me to pick up Addison after the movie, and when we walked into her classroom, she ran straight to her and up into her arms, and stayed just like that for like, 10-15 minutes, while we waited for Grandmommie to meet us with Emerson. It was very sweet, and the best little loves.

We were able to get some nice outside time late this afternoon, playing in the front yard for a bit, while Jeff and the boys were looking into some things at Home Depot. Once they got back, the girls both spent a little time trying out their new bikes, just around the carport and driveway.

We had taquitos with yellow rice and black beans for dinner, and out of the 48 taquitos I baked, there were only two left after dinner!

And even after all the food we ate at dinner, the girls wanted oranges for “dessert,” so we sat there and ate three in a row, with me slicing them up and digging out the seeds, and passing plug after plug to each of the girls.

Emerson specifically told me to take this picture for the blog, to show all the orange rind pieces, even though this was from only the last one of the three we ate. They’re so good! We’re probably going to try to harvest all of them tomorrow, while the boys are here to help, so we can start passing them out to family and friends. I’m sure we have hundreds on the tree again this year, so we’ll definitely have plenty to go around!

We kept the girls up late tonight, in hopes they’ll sleep well through all the noise and fireworks that are inevitable in the neighborhood. Around 8pm, we went out into the backyard to do a few sparklers to celebrate New Year’s Eve. Addie was a little scared of them, so she didn’t hold one herself, but she jumped and cheered and clapped for the rest of us playing with them. Also, the girls had done their own makeup for the festivities, heavy on the silver glitter and pink blush.

It was about 9:30 by the time we finally got the girls to sleep, with their sound machines up higher than normal, in hopes to drown out all the New Year’s Eve hoopla. I’m sure Emerson will be totally fine, but Addison gives us a hard time every night anyways, so who knows how things will go with her…

Also, I finished one final book for my Goodreads challenge this year, bringing my total to 105 books for 2024! Maybe I’ll share a quick post of some of my faves from the year tomorrow…

For now, we’ll see if I can make it to midnight, hanging out with Jeff and the boys, but that seems unlikely, given my usual track record of falling asleep on the couch almost every night. šŸ˜

Here’s to 2025, my friends!!
