Corn Chowder & Cornbread

We had a very different morning than usual… I went straight to work by myself, and even stopped to treat myself to CFA breakfast… (Also, Addie-Pie did not want to sleep in her bed by herself last night, so Jeff and I basically took turns holding her all night. It was really rough.)

The girls both slept in a little bit, then Jeff got them dressed (in the clothes I laid out for them), and got them all ready to go. And although I laid out Emmie’s dress, clearly she finished dressing herself and picked out her own accessories to really make the outfit 😉

Jeff dropped Addison off at school, and then took Emerson to the dentist. Back at her check-up in November, they found multiple cavities that needed fillings. They did the first half today, and then we have to go back to do the other half next Monday. It’s quite a process, and a very expensive process at that. So, brush your kids teeth people. We thought we were doing well, but we let her do too much of it on her own, and she wasn’t doing a good job, so now we do it for her most all of the time.

I love that not only did she choose to bring her cute, soft sloth for her emotional support friend, but she also brought Captain Marvel. That’s my girl! Really, that’s her Daddys’ girl, with his love for superhero’s.

Daddy said she was really super brave today, and said that it only hurt a little bit during the process, and that her cheek felt funny afterwards. (Which they said was normal.)

Silly little girl had her dress on backwards

I really wanted to see her, so I made a super quick run back home on my lunch break so I could get some loves from her and just check on her a little bit. She was pretty pitiful at that point, just tired and in a little pain, and it made me sad to leave her. I knew Jeff would take great care of her, but I still wished I could have stayed with her.

The afternoon at work was crazy though, and went by relatively fast. So fast, that I forgot to have my daily afternoon coffee, so finally at like 4:30pm, I decided to have some hot chocolate instead, mainly to use my new mug, and also to help me warm up in our freezing cold office.

Jeff got Emerson to sleep for her nap around 2:30pm, and girl friend slept until just after 5pm, when he finally just woke her up. And then once she was awake, she was so much better, and in such a great mood. Back to her normal, happy self! And it was so nice to come home after picking up Addison, to find my Emerson excited and so much better!

I made my aunt & uncle’s recipe for sausage & corn chowder (with potatoes) tonight, with just a box of Jiffy mix on the side, and it all turned out so good. Honestly, that Jiffy cornbread came out better than ever, from baking it in my new air fryer oven. And of course the soup was good!

Even little baby Chickpea had herself some soup & bread, and was really enjoying herself and the dinner.

Since Emerson had such a late nap today, we let her stay up later than usual, and just play on her Kindle for a while. Addison had a little screaming freakout moment with me for about 15 minutes, but Jeff took over and walked around with her, and got her to calm down. We got her to finish her bottle after that, and then she fell asleep easily.

Emmie grabbed herself another snack, and picked out a book to read, and we started the bedtime routine.

We let her stay up about an hour late on purpose, but then it was still about another hour before she finally stopped all her stalling techniques and laid down to actually go to sleep, at almost 10pm. I had already put up the soup leftovers a while ago, and I had washed dishes while dinner was cooking, so the only dirty dishes are my Dutch oven and our soup bowls. I’m gonna wash the giant pot only, and leave the rest until tomorrow…
