Emerson and I had the best day together today, full of fun and errands and visits and good drinks and yummy food, and capped it all off with a Wednesday night church service. First, “Mirabel” and I took baby sister to school, and stopped to hug the triplets too.
Addie has bee working on using real cups at meal times at school, and I’m very much looking forward to not having to wash and pack three sippy cups every single day.
The Frother’s Daughter usually comes to my office every Thursday, but she’s closed tomorrow, so Emmie and I went by to see her and get a Butter Brew coffee from her location near FBC downtown.
Then we had breakfast at home, and I washed up a load of dishes.Today, I tried mixing a bulb of roasted garlic in with some cream cheese today, and it was good, but I actually like it better with mayo (but I’ve always been a mayo girlie).
After washing dishes, I also threw in a chunk of frozen chicken in the crock pot, with this sauce I randomly found at Publix the other day, along with this giant sliced-up red onion.
Then we headed out to hang out at the Lake Jackson branch of the library (our favorite branch), and after picking out tons of books, we were actually run out by a very large, very loud group of multiple families and kids that came by and were acting a little crazy.
We hit up the thrift store after the library, where I lucked out finding this month’s pick for our book club meeting in a few weeks, for a mere $2, which is much better than 11-week Libby hold for the Kindle library version.
And Emerson actually lucked out finding some cute clothes, that she bought for herself with some of her birthday money she’s been itching to spend.
Got some pictures of Addie having fun at daycare today.
We went back home for lunch and a little bit of rest time, and read a couple of the library books we checked out. My mom had a second back surgery yesterday (to fix last year’s back surgery, because somehow the titanium screw broke and the plate shifted??), so Emmie and I went for a quick surprise visit to check on her, and bring her an ice cold, fresh fountain Coke.
We treated ourselves to another special drink after the hospital, a taro boba milk tea, which was so yummy. And Emmie even had her little tiny stuffed boba.
We went by one more thrift store, where I found a few books from a series that Grandmother has been wanting. She used to own the whole giant series years ago, but it’s gone missing over the years. I found these five today, for only $2 each, so of course I had to pick them up for her.
So as Emmie and I were pulling out of the driveway on our way to the hospital, one of our neighbors across the street and one house down, waved me over as he was at his mailbox. He actually asked me if he could mow our lawn for us! After chatting for a few minutes, and him admitting he’s seen Jeff out there with the push-mower trudging through the hay-field this stuff turns into (Jeff was still gonna have to blow the cut grass off, and mow over it all a second time), I asked, “You just want to do this out of the generosity of your own heart?” And he was like, “Yes ma’am, just tell your husband I’ll take care of it for y’all.”
Then later, when we got back home, it looked like this! We checked our outdoor cameras, and it turns out he showed up in our driveway literally 3 minutes after our conversation, used his gigantic riding mower to blow off all the dried grass from last night, and then cut the whole thing, and was done and driving off again in less than 30 minutes. What an incredibly nice thing for him to do, and what a blessing for Jeff specifically, especially in this excessive heat lately. (You can see him and his fancy mower on the very edge of our security cam screenshot below.)
We raced to pick up Addie after our boba and thrift store, and then raced back home for dinner. We had leftover rice from last night (I made a ton on purpose), and the teriyaki chicken was ready and smelled delicious. I did a rough-shred of the chicken, then served up our simple, super yummy dinner. I ended up also cutting up some fresh green onion from my little backyard onions I’ve been growing this summer.
Tonight was the final night of GC Kids summer events, with a foam party to celebrate! I just had to stay outside for a few minutes after church started, so I could watch all this fun!
We had a great Wednesday night prayer service, and the kids had tons of fun at the foam party.
We stayed at church a little too late chatting and hanging out, and both girls were overtired by the time we got home. It was a little after 9pm by the time we got them both to sleep, but luckily it was still pretty drama-free. I loved my special day with Emerson, but that girl wore me out with all our errands and visits, so I’m ready for some rest now!
