After a decent bedtime routine last night (currently, 45 minutes is considered “decent,” vs. like, 3 hours….), she decided she needed to wake up at 4am. She was moaning and groaning for a few minutes, and when I realized she wasn’t just going to go back to sleep on her own, I went in there to pick her up. She asked for lullabies on my phone, but I hadn’t brought it with me. I asked her if she just wanted Mommy to sing, and she said yes, so I gave it my best raspy, sleepy, 4am-voice effort. It worked apparently, because I was able to lay her back down around 4:30am, and I went back to sleep myself for a bit.
Then at 7am, she was wide awake and happy-go-lucky, as if nothing had happened! I got myself dressed, then got her dressed, and she sat in the kitchen floor eating snacks, while I packed my lunch and made my coffee.
At school, she was asking where Ms. Q was, and I told her I was sure she would come to her classroom to give her and her other buddies (the twin boys) some hugs soon. I wiped some cookie crumbs off her face before photos, and she kept asking me about it, which is why she’s pointing at her face in a few of these…
But she’s wearing a cute new dress, and looking so beautiful!
“Cheeeeeeeseee Mommyyyy!”
“Mommy, look at the birdies! Birdies, Mommy!”
She has the most beautiful blue eyes, and I can never get over them. Even when she’s making cute, funny faces. And this turquoise dress just matches so perfectly!
We grabbed her a muffin, and she did really great at drop-off. Her old teacher from last summer, Ms. Heather, was in there helping out, and she was so impressed by easily Emmie just walked up to Ms. Sheila, with no tears or fussing. I said I was so proud of her lately too, and that having a muffin seems to help 😉
Oh, and the opossum was gone this morning! I knocked over the trash can around 9:30 last night, and stood at the door watching for about five minutes, hoping I’d actually see it walk away. But then I got bored of waiting, turned the light off, and hoped and prayed it wouldn’t be sitting there waiting when Emmie and I went outside to leave for school. So when we left, I made her stand right inside the door while I went to check first, just in case, but the trash can had only trash it it, and it seems the creature escaped into the darkness last night. Praise the Lord for that!
I had delicious leftover roasted tomato pasta for lunch today, and a delicious honey crisp apple I ordered in my Walmart grocery pick-up the other day. And they’re so good! I’m usually picky about apples (I will NOT eat it if it’s soft or mushy or mealy), so I was taking a risk with these, but they’re perfect.
This cutie girl had a good day at school today.
After work, Nita and I made really last minute plans to meet up for dinner. We had mentioned it in passing yesterday, but we didn’t firm it up. So we decided we’d just grab sandwiches at my favorite – Hopkins. Emmie loves baked lays and grilled cheese, and I love every one of their sandwiches, and their mint sweet tea.
And here’s another great shot of her beautiful blue eyes with her perfect blue dress!
She had to investigate the Halloween decor on the way out. Nana said she was surprised she wasn’t scared of the skeletons, but I don’t think Emerson even realized that it’s supposed to be scary. She was just interested, but not scared.
At home, she got completely naked to sit on her tiny potty, so after she was finished (doing nothing), we put on her jammies. She “helped” feed Pretzel, and then she “helped” get the mail.
And tonight I was able to get a photo of the cute little pumpkin decor Nita got me yesterday, now that the scary opossum was gone! And I love it!
She had a few cookies while watching the five little duck video (it’s her current favorite), and then we had a video call from Daddy!
She sat and quietly chatted for a minute, but then she started flopping around on the couch. And then she started going crazy and bouncing all over the living room! She was also playing peek-a-book with Daddy from behind the curtains. She was being super duper silly!
She decided it was too bright inside, and she needed her sunglasses.
I let her bounce around a little while longer to get some of the wiggles out, and then we watched two “Buster the Bus” videos. We went back to her room to start the bedtime routine. She requested more videos, so we negotiated and said two videos, but only one book. We then did prayers and kisses, and she started stalling… She just kept chatting and pointing out random things and asking about stuff around her room. I said, “OK Emmie, no more pointing and talking about stuff.” And she just said, “Yes we point and talk about stuff.” You guys, this girl. She kills me.
We did our three usual lullabies, plus one more repeat of the last one, followed by back scratches and two rounds of Mommy singing “Jesus Loves Me.” Once again, it all took about 45 minutes, so it wasn’t too bad. I got all the dishes washed (that I’d been neglecting for a couple of days), so now I’m going to paint my nails while I watch tv for a bit, and then read before bedtime.
