At-Home Valentine’s

Happy Valentine’s Day, from my tiny sweet littlest loves!

After we dropped off Addison at school, I took Emerson back to the dentist to finish getting the other cavities filled. She was super brave again, and just laid there on the chair, watching “Despicable Me” on the ceiling, like it was nothing at all! The dentist said she was the best little patient, and I was so proud of her!

I asked her if she felt up to running into Trader Joe’s, and she said she was fine, so we made a quick trip. She was fine, even picked out a few snacks (green apple, yellow apple, mini watermelon, & cookies), but she just couldn’t smile with her still-numb mouth!

Emmie had eaten some breakfast at home before her appointment, so once we got back home, I made myself some “fancy” scrambled eggs for brunch, mixed with a splash of cream, added to sautéed mushrooms, topped with parmesan & chives, with just a few dots of sriracha. I meant to also add a small shallot, but forgot. But it was sooo good! This was the first time I’ve made eggs like this for myself, but it certainly won’t be my last.

Poor baby girl couldn’t stop drooling, so while she watched her Kindle and just rested for a while, she had to hold a paper towel up to her face the whole time.

After a while, she perked up and hollered, “Mommy I can talk good now!” She decided her mouth felt okay, and wanted to try eating an egg sandwich for lunch. It took her a long time, taking the tiniest mouse-sized bites, but she was in fact able to eat.

Then she helped me make a couple of “compound butters,” one was garlic & chive, and the other was rosemary & garlic, with rosemary from the bush right out in our front yard. We mixed them up, got them in the fridge, and then went to lay down in my bed together for naptime.

We slept for almost two hours, and when I tried to sneak a picture of her when I woke up, I realized she was waking up already too, and had that tiny little smirk hiding under there.

While we were napping, I missed a phone call from the school, from them telling me that Addison had been super fussy and wouldn’t let her teacher put her down. So I picked her up early, made a last-minute appointment at the pediatrician’s office, to get her seen at the very end of the day. Turns out, our poor little Chickpea has her 4th ear infection, in the last four months, so she’s back on antibiotics again.

She fell asleep on the way home, holding on to the side of her handle bar again, which is so cute to me.

Emerson and I had planned to bake a pink cake for Valentine’s Day after nap, and luckily we found time to still get it done once I got home.

And then I made my first “real meal” in my fancy new air fryer, using the sear pan, on the sear & crisp setting. This pan is supposed to sear like a cast iron, and I think it did what it was supposed to do! I got these filet mignon’s from Trader Joe’s the other day, and was just so worried about ruining fancy steak, by cooking them a new way. But it all turned out super great!

I made some sautéed onions, and a mushroom cream sauce as well.

And yes, we like our Brussel sprouts a little burnt & crispy 🙂 The steaks turned out perfectly too, super tender and very flavorful, and cooked so well. I added a big pat of the rosemary butter on top of both of them also, and WOW. Delicious. Oh, and I toasted a few slices of a tomato & parmesan focaccia break from Trader Joes, and put the rosemary butter on that too.

Nana got a new chair for Addison, and although it was a little bit too big for her, she was cute in it 🙂

Emmie tried one bite of the steak, decided she didn’t want it, so I was like, “Gimme that back then girl, we ain’t wasting filet mignon!” And Daddy made her a PB&J instead.

After we finished eating, Jeff cleaned up the kitchen for me a little bit, and Emerson and I iced our strawberry cake with hot pink icing and hot pink sugar crystal sprinkles.

I let her eat a small piece of cake, even after licking the icing of the spatula, and then tried to get her calmed down for bedtime. We had video calls with Meg & the triplets this afternoon, then a phone call from Aaron & Mandy, and finally a video call with Grammy & Papa at bedtime. She was still a little wound up and crazy, but I did finally get her settled down and ready to sleep.

Jeff had to go all the way across town to the one CVS that could fill Addie’s prescription tonight (the one nearest our house is terrible), but he just got home with that, so we’re going to get her the first dose, and fix her a bottle, and then get her to sleep. She wouldn’t sleep in her bed last night (now we know it was because her ear was hurting her again), so Jeff and I had to take turns holding her in the recliner again all night long. It was rough. Hoping and praying things go much better tonight, and that we can all get better sleep.
