Addie Learns to Swim!

The girls and I started off this beautiful Saturday by hitting up a few yard sales and an estate sale, and then snacks from the Cumberland Farms gas station.

And of course we had to visit a couple of Little Free Library’s as well.

We really weren’t all that super lucky at all of our stops, but I did find two cute baskets, and a decent pile of books. And I only paid $8 for all of this, so that’s a pretty good deal.

We ran back home to changes clothes and gather up our towels and sunscreen, and then we enjoyed a perfect pool day with the fam out at Grammy’s house! So two or three weeks ago, Addie would only swim in her floatie, and didn’t even want to get her head under the water. Then this past week at East hill, where they don’t allow them to wear floaties (they just play on the steps, and there’s lots of grown-ups around), she discovered she liked dunking her whole head. So today started out with lots of jumps off the steps…

And then Aunt Meggie decided it was just trial by fire day (or water, as it were), and she started giving her some little swim lessons. And the girl took to it like a fish to water! She was whiny and upset about it the first few times, but she got the hang of it real fast, and she was doing it by herself almost immediately.

We all dried off at noon and went inside to have sandwiches and chips and potato salad for lunch. But by mid-afternoon, everyone was hungry again and ready for a snack. Grammy brought each of the kids a cup full of popcorn, and then she brought out a whole snack bar for all of the adults, and I was a big fan of that.

The girls and I were the last ones out of the pool late this afternoon, and by that point, I had been calling Addie Pie my Tiny Fishy for a few hours, since she was just swimming like the true Florida girl she really is!

I forced them to both be quiet and rest after they finished their snack, because I knew as soon as they did that, they’d both fall asleep. And obviously I was right.

I read Addie a book while she colored a bookmark, and she wanted me to take a couple of pictures of her being cute, sitting in one of my baskets.

I loved the unique shape of this basket I got at the estate sale this morning. I decided to put my wax melt collection in here for my Scentsy, and Addie decided where we should put it. And it’s so cute.

I left Addie here working on her bookmark while I worked in the kitchen a little bit, and loved how content she was just coloring for a while. Emmie meanwhile was in her bed in her room, like a little pre-teen, watching videos on her tablet and reading a book. We ate dinner, and then the girls had a bath, and I jumped in the shower too. I did get a little too much sun today, so I made sure to slather on my after-sun lotion and put some on the girls as well, although they’re mostly fine and I got the brunt of it. Which is weird, since I reapplied my own sunscreen more than theirs even.

Aunt Meggie gets all the credit for teaching Addie to swim today, but I’m still just so very proud of her!
