Valentine’s Rangoon

It was lovely to turn off all our morning alarms again last night, and get to sleep in a tiny bit, until 8am. The girls of course were awake earlier than that, but they’re good about staying quiet until we get up. I made the girls waffles and scrambled eggs for breakfast, and fried eggs in a low-carb tortilla for me with some cheese too. Low-carb food, and a very not low-carb homemade iced latte. (Our coffee pot at home is on the fritz right now, so I’ve been making coffee at work lately, with sugar-free creamer. Today’s coffee was definitely a treat though!)

Last night, I laid out some little Valentine’s day gifts for my tiny girls, and let them into everything this morning. They loved these “just-add-water” painting books I got them, and very diligently each painted multiple pictures throughout the day. They are really cool books, and they made such nice little paintings!

We took it kind of easy most of the morning, letting Emerson rest and relax since she was feeling rough again this morning. Eventually, we started slowing working on some chores, like folding laundry and tidying up. Emmie’s meds kicked in around 11am, and she started feeling much better, so the girls started playing together. They finally got hungry again so I made them both “snack plates,” with turkey, cheese, carrots & yogurt. Jeff took care of himself, and I made myself an applewood smoked sausage with a bunch of caramelized onions, and a crispy diet coke.

We spent a few more hours around the house, half taking it easy and half doing a few chores, and letting the girls kinda do their own thing… Around 3:30, we got dressed and ready to head out of the house for a while, to go run some errands. Both girls dressed and accessorized themselves, and I did their hair the way they each requested, and they were just too much and too stinking cute.

We dropped off some things to return at the library, and then went through 7Brew for the Valentine’s Day special. I tried their new cold brew with a splash of cream, since it’s lower-carb than the drinks I usually get from there, and Jeff and I kinda shared it. And Emmie and Addie shared a coconut & strawberry smoothie, which I had a taste of, and it was very sweet and very delicious.

Next up was Home Depot for supplies for a couple of projects we wanted to take care of this weekend. The girls always gotta test out the tractors on the way in…

And they always love riding in the race car buggies together too, even though Emerson’s long legs barely fit in there anymore these days!

And look at these cute little hair-do’s!

Emmie took my phone for a little bit, and snapped about 30 crazy photos and selfies, but she did manage this one decent one 😉

Next up was Walmart for our weekly grocery pick-up, and then we took everything home to get it all put away. I had actually planned to cook egg-roll-in-a-bowl for dinner tonight, to stay low-carb and healthy, but not one part of me wanted to do that when the time came… So instead, we all debated for a while between tacos, Chinese, pizza or all three, and eventually Jeff suggested hibachi (like he always does, actually), so we decided on Fuji for a quick (and slightly cheaper) hibachi and sushi family Valentine’s dinner date.

Since my birthday and Valentine’s Day are so close together, it kinda feels like too much to go out for another extravagant dinner again, just the two of us, only two weeks later. So for the last few years, we’ve done a family Valentine’s date, and I love it! Plus, some Valentine’s Rangoon as a family is always a good plan 🙂

After taking this picture below, I saw the sunset out the front windows, and so I literally ran outside to snap some pics. And when I turned around, I saw both girls had followed me, so I got a great picture of them as well.

The girls had a very quick bath together once we got home, and then we immediately got started on our usual bedtime routine. I just realized we forgot to give Emmie her nighttime cold/cough meds, so hopefully she’ll make it through the night without feeling too bad.

I’m currently wearing some funny little “foot peel mask” things on my feet, wrapped up in fluffy socks, that I’ve had on for almost an hour now. So I need to go take these off, and wash my foot, and then get cozy for the night, which I’m more than ready to do right now!
