Trimming the Tree

We were running a little bit late this morning, and it was super crowded when we pulled into daycare. So we parked in a different spot, and took photos in a different spot, but Emmie loved to check out the leaves first thing in the morning!

Today there were “spice muffins,” and I was afraid she wouldn’t like it. (I don’t know why though, she loves those tiny pumpkin ginger ice cream cones from Trader Joe’s), but as we were walking down the hallway, she said, “Mmm this is good, Mommy.”

I made sure after Meg’s birthday dinner last night, to make it known that I’d like to take leftover’s home, so I could bring it to work for today’s lunch. And luckily I got some! And of course it was still yummy today, and perfect for this cold day!

So Jeff has been pretty sick for a few days, and last night, he took a late-night trip to Urgent Care. The doctor didn’t swab him, but decided he probably has the flu, based on symptoms alone. So Jeff didn’t go to work today, and he’s gonna stay home tomorrow too. Hoping and praying he gets better quickly, and that Emerson and I don’t get sick too!

Tonight was supposed to be sloppy joes for dinner, but I realized that I forgot to buy the meat! So no-meat, coupled with Jeff’s sickness, made me not want to cook tonight. And since we’re T-Mobile customers, we get special deals every Tuesday. Today was a 2-topping pizza & 8 boneless wings from Pizza Hut, for only $7.99. Can’t beat that deal! So no-meat, and sick hubby, and super great deal = why would I cook!? So I placed my order online before leaving work, and Emmie and I picked it up on the way home.

Emmie had a half a slice of pizza (or a few bites of it), and then decided she wanted cheese noodles. So she got cheese noodles, and ate the entire container. And then she saw us using the the Ranch dressing, she wanted some too. So she had the rest of her piece of pizza, dipped in ranch.

We played for a while after dinner, but Emmie didn’t want to take a bath, so we just didn’t. After playing and just sitting and watching some of “Frozen,” we got her in her jammies and ready for bed. And while we were getting changed, Sheppie got up off the coffee table and went to hide from us! (I snuck & hid him super fast on the way to her bedroom.) When we got back to the coffee table, she was honestly so surprised he wasn’t right where she left him!

She looked under the Christmas tree, but he wasn’t there…

She looked a few other places, and then finally found him hanging out with Harry Potter on the bookshelf!

We read Sheppy’s book again tonight, except Emmie read it to Mommy tonight, and she just did such a great job.

And as part of our nightly routine, we sat and chatted for a bit, and she told me all about her day, and William and Andrew went in the big boy potty, but Noah pooped in his undies. This kid cracks me up! I love the random things she tells me. I don’t remember how we started talking about it, but she said there’s an owl at her school, but she doesn’t like owls, because “Emmie scared of dem sometimes.” She also said an owl came inside the school one time, and it was scary. I told her I didn’t think that had happened, but she insisted it had 😉 She’s hilarious!

She was really good for bedtime tonight, and super sweet for lullabies and cuddles, and I was able to get her into her crib very easily.

I had washed a bit of dishes before bedtime (we had what felt like a million mugs piling up from so much hot tea lately), so after getting Emmie down, I decided to work on the Christmas tree a little bit. We’ve had it put up in the dining room in it’s usual spot for about five days, but withing nothing but the lights that come on it! We’ve been busy (and then Jeff was sick), so we haven’t had time to trim the tree.

At Walmart the other day, I bought two of these giant rolls of chunky yarn, to replace the crazy glittery gold ribbon & sparkly red ribbon that I usually use. I did this all by myself tonight (with the help of a step-stool), and I LOVE it! I only ended up using one skein of yarn, with a few feet leftover still, so I’ll try to return the other one this weekend maybe.

I might try to rework a couple of the rows to get it just-so, but I think it looks good! I’m taking a little break from decorating the tree, in order to write this post. Then I’ll go put on some ornaments, and then sit down in my cozy chair next to the tree and read with a mug of hot tea.
