On the way to school this morning, Emerson randomly told me, out of nowhere, that she didn’t like cranberry muffins. I said, “OK, well we’ll just have to see what kind they have today!” And she was very excited it was a cinnamon pear muffin, which was delicious. 🙂
This is when I told her, “show me a silly face!”
Fixated on watching another little girl cry, about having to leave this classroom and go to a different one with her teacher. (They always combine a few classes in the early morning, until more kids & teachers get there and then split up.)
Since we had leftovers for dinner last night, there were no leftovers to bring to work for lunch today. So instead, I just brought a huge bag of Honey Nut Cheerios and a jar of milk, and had cereal for lunch! It was honestly such a good idea, I don’t know why I’ve never thought of it before. It was just so easy! And I read more of my Christmas Kindle book on my phone.
On this day two years ago, it was our first Sunday back in church after Emmie was hospitalized with RSV, so we sat up in the balcony, and took selfies, and she fell asleep during the sermon, and then later took her 20-week photos at home.
I love seeing pictures of her and her friends, doing art together at school!
When I picked up Emerson after school, she had this cute pilgrim hat in her bag. She wanted to show me it, so we went ahead and put it on, and look how adorable!
Jeff had to do some more computer work for a church-friend tonight, so Emmie and I had a simple dinner at home. She read her Christmas book in the floor of the kitchen while I made scrambled eggs & buttered bread for her, and my favorite egg-in-the-hole for me, plus sausage for both of us. Which is funny, because I accidentally ended up having breakfast foods for all three meals of the day. I didn’t hate it one bit!
She watched me butter the bread, and just could not wait to eat it, so I gave her 1/4 of it, which she finished off in three seconds flat. Followed immediately by another 1/4 piece.
And then she proceeded to eat her entire plate! Literally, every. single. bit. Scrambled eggs, two sausage links (she requested two), shredded cheese, and her whole piece of bread & butter. Plus some of my toast rounds that she insisted I give her.
After dinner, Emerson played and had some fun, and then she played and had some fun in the bath tub. She wanted to wear her warm, penguin footie jammies again, and who can blame her? They look so comfy!
She wanted a candy snack, so she picked out this chocolate tootsie pop, but as usual, she only had a few licks, and then wanted me to wrap it back up.
We read the caterpillar book, and she also wanted to read the Little Golden Book Christmas story, and she loved them both so much.
She wanted to chat again a little bit before bedtime, so she was telling me about her friends at school, and that some of them are out of town. And she was confused because her friends the twins call their Grandmother “Grammy” as well, so she thought they were at her Grammy’s new house, so I had a tricky time trying to explain that one…
She kept trying weird little tactics to stall bedtime (like wanting to switch blankets like three times and needing an extra lullaby), but eventually she was ready to lay down in her crib and go to sleep.
Luckily, there was minimal dish-washing & kitchen-cleaning to do tonight from our easy dinner, so I got that done pretty quickly after getting Emerson down.
So last night, I think I discovered the hard way, that the pina colada tea is NOT caffeine free, like most of our other tea. I am actually super sensitive to caffeine, and usually try not to drink any past like, 2 or 3 pm. Sooo I was awake until about 1am this morning, and then Emmie woke up crying around 2:30am, cry-whining “Mommy, I’m crying in my bed, I need a luddaby.” (I did in fact sing her another lullaby, & she laid right back down & was fine.) But I think I’ll stick to some tea that is definitely (mostly) caffeine free (I know it still has a tiny amount, but that’s normal & I can handle it).
Going to settle in with my hot tea now, and watch an episode of “Call the Midwife.” Night friends!
