The Night Before a New School Year

Beautiful, happy, precious little girls before church this morning!

We had a great service for church this morning, and then we had to do Mexican for lunch afterwards. Just had to! So of course we went to our favorite place, Echalee – the girls split a kids chicken finger meal, and Jeff and I split chicken fajita nachos, and it was delicious.

After lunch, we decided to skip the fight with Addie, and just let her lay down with Daddy. He told her to close her eyes to send a picture to Mommy, but you can see her little eyes peeking.

Emmie and I took a little 30-minute power nap, and then did a one-hour-power clean in her bedroom. It was at that stage where it looked like a hurricane had recently run through it, and we did not want to start the new school year like that. We did in fact get everything all cleaned up and tidied up, and we laid out outfits for the first week of school.

Emmie invited one of their favorite teachers Ms. Ary to come meet Pennie, so she came over and spent a couple of hours late this afternoon, just playing with the girls and hanging out.

I sent Jeff to pick up our Walmart grocery order around 5pm, but I accidentally sent him to the wrong store, because I changed it up to a different store than usual, based on the pick-up time I wanted. Soo, unfortunately it took him quite a while to switch stores and get back with the food. I had planned to make a breakfast casserole again tonight, but that plan got quashed, since he got back so late. So we did another night of leftovers for the girls, and some random stuff for us.

I was influenced on TikTok again this week, but that one guy who eats a whole cucumber every day with all those different ingredients and variations and such… So I tried the salmon bagel inspired one, and it looked really good! But turns out, I don’t actually like smoked salmon, and so I didn’t like this at all. And I didn’t like my leftover sushi, because it was so dried out and the rice was crispy…

So I ended up not eating either of those things, and had a bowl of cereal instead…

We gave the girls their melatonin gummies a little early tonight, trying to get them ready for bed at a good time, before the new school year. And it really worked on Emmie tonight, because girlfriend was tired, and she was totally asleep before we even finished our typical bedtime routine stuff. Even taking this pic with this flash didn’t bother her, when normally it would have. She’s told me a few times over the last few days that she is both nervous and excited for the new school year, but I know it’s gonna be great for her!

But little baby sister up front wasn’t quite as sleepy as big sister, but she was just sitting on the couch very sweetly, petting her doggie girl, watching a car-detailing video on YouTube with Daddy.

Addie will also start in a new classroom with a new teacher tomorrow, and I’m sure she’s also going to have a great year!

She’s fallen asleep by now though, and Jeff carried her to her bed. I washed up dishes earlier, and Emmie’s school bag is all packed and ready to go. Jeff and I started watching “The Peanut Butter Falcon” on Netflix last night, and we have about 30 minutes left. So we’ll finish that, and then I’ll be ready for bedtime myself.
